  • My family and I really love this place. Amazing views and the petroglyphs are really awesome. Just watch out for rattlesnakes in the summer. But in the ten years I have been coming here I have only seen one. But it is their home so just be aware of them. But I highly recommend you check this place out.
  • Such an out of the way place but so cool. No one was around when we were there so just explored, climbed around and enjoyed it all.
  • amazing ancient, and enduring history and communication. requires some light hike and climbing to see them up close, but well worth it.
  • It's a short drive to the La Cieneguilla petroglyphs, but once there this modern world seems far away. 500 year old petroglyphs made by the Pueblo Peoples have been carved and etched through the black outer layer of stone along an eastern facing escarpment. Many bird images, what seem to be vulture, eagle, duck. Along with odd anthropomorphic figures, square bodied, star formed limbs and Kokopelli styled flute players. Many spirals and undulating snakes designs. Polydactyl hands, triangle headed beings, four-legged creatures, thunderbirds, dragonfly. All intimately accessible. In some ways, with the more vivid petroglyphs, it's easy to have a sense that Those Who Made Them were just here. It's a beautiful immediacy. Unfortunately, for some this has sadly prompted acts of infantile vandalism. Thankfully, the majority of the glyphs are undisturbed. There's a sign for the petroglyphs and a small parking lot. Then an easy 5 to 10 minute walk to the escarpment. Scramble up the rocky trail and look closely as you walk along a ledge just beneath the black rocks. The petroglyphs are clustered into curious bunches along the boulder strewn path. There are a few arrows pointing the way, but no interpretive information. It's a rewarding couple of hours searching for ancient sign under the same sun wondering what it meant and what it still means. Note: no bathrooms.
  • Fun hiking! Great place!

Where to stay in Santa Fe

Though the downtown area contains most of Santa Fe's finest hotels, you can find plenty of equally comfortable inns and motels just outside this busy central district. Remember also that most of the city's centrally located hotels raise their prices during the height of the tourist season, so it is essential to look for deals and make reservations well in advance. To experience the true spirit of outdoor New Mexico while on holiday, consider sleeping under the stars at a campground just a short drive from Santa Fe's major urban attractions.
