  • Variety of different eateries and a great place to buy food. Check out Big Eye Raw bar and the noodle bar - they're one of the best around.  more »
  • A good place for a quick lunch but good in a clean and beautiful, young people work there very friendly and funny. We ate a Taco that saved my life:)

  • Everything here is amazing. Rory’s ice cream is top notch, the bakery’s cookie dough balls are a must try, the sushi place is great, and the Mexican food place is very good, plus empty Bowl’s pad Thai is outstanding. Pro tip: order your food from wherever (I suggest empty bowl if it’s your first time) and ask them to bring it into the beer and wine place so you can have a drink from a huge selection with your food.
  • The Public Markets idea has changed recently into more of an open space for small restaurants rather than a "public market". They added a bar in the front where a small grocery store was - this really makes it more appealing to SB than a shopping experience. Having little restaurants in one spot makes it easier to share food with friends who want to all eat different things :)
  • It's a love hate relationship. I love the idea, I love how close it is to my house, and I love the concept, but overall it really is an unfortunate flop. I wont review individual restaurants here but I've been to them all and nothing excites me and the service is shockingly off. Shared open dining is a great idea but nothing flows on this floor plan with overcrowding and too much dead space. It sums up a lot of SB vibe, like how awkward State St is, with areas you don't want to hang out in, yet prices are still high. Empty plots are still about, someone please come and save this venue! I really want it to work.
  • Most of the dining places are overpriced, but the Mexican place is very tasty and the poke place is decent (variable quality depending on what you order). It's a great place to work though, if you don't mind the noise! Plenty of tables, Green Star Coffee, food when you want it, wifi.
  • Upscale market with many different restaurants and bars. Check out the Thai place, the main bar, the wine tasting room (Beer + Wine), the coffee shop, or the ice cream shop. Plenty of veggie options.

Where to stay in Santa Barbara

Blessed with a mild climate and lush location, Santa Barbara remains a playground for the rich and famous, so it's no surprise that accommodations can be extremely expensive here. The priciest hotels are near the water, so before you make your reservations, decide if staying beachside fits into your budget. You can find more affordable rooms at any one of the area's small motels, located just blocks from the beaches. These offer secure parking, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi.
