Observation Deck Government Building
Not just any old government structure, Santa Barbara County Courthouse is a four-building Spanish-Moorish complex with plenty to see beyond courtrooms. As you wander the 14,000 sq m (150,000 sq ft), you can view the Mural Room, Law Library, and Hall of Records. Climb the Bell Tower to see the inner workings of the old clock--and to take photos from this famous observation deck. The courthouse's interior might surprise you with its intense colors, bodacious tiles, and bold lighting. Its gardens feature trees from more than 25 countries and are a popular place for weddings. Where to stay in Santa Barbara

Blessed with a mild climate and lush location, Santa Barbara remains a playground for the rich and famous, so it's no surprise that accommodations can be extremely expensive here. The priciest hotels are near the water, so before you make your reservations, decide if staying beachside fits into your budget. You can find more affordable rooms at any one of the area's small motels, located just blocks from the beaches. These offer secure parking, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi.

  • The Court House takes up a full block. Inside some of the courts there are mural paintings on the wall of old California. There is the sunken garden; sometimes there are concerts held here. It's just ...  more »
  • We did not get here in time for the view we had heard about but the outside architectural details were lovely. It is always such a pleasure to see communities taking pride in their community buildings...  more »

  • Beautiful! This is definitely a place you'll take a few pictures! The building is gorgeous outside and in. I'm a particularly big fan of all the beautiful tiles. And don't forget to go all the way to the top so you can look out over the city! There's only one small elevator, so plan on waiting if there's even the slightest crowd.
  • The Santa Barbara courthouse is so stunning, it's no coincidence that a wedding takes place there nearly everyday. Many of those weddings take place in the history mural room, but nearly the entire building is detailed in intricate design. The original building was destroyed early in the 20th century by a bad earthquake, but this area has been the local hub for government since 1800's. It's my favorite thing in Santa Barbara.
  • Got married here. Beautiful historical building. The Library is amazing. The views from the tower are incredible
  • Beautiful Location for Wedding Ceremonies! Lawn is always green and you can get great photos of your wedding at this historic courthouse.
  • The nicest courthouse I have ever been. Spanish style. I'll get married in here this year. The gardens, the Mural Room, the tower... my favourite historic place in Santa Barbara.
