Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Santa Barbara
(3.8/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Established in 1926, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden displays California's rare and indigenous plants in their natural setting. Located on 32 hectares (78 acres), this is California's oldest botanic garden, dedicated to research, education, and conservation. You can discover over 1,000 different species by following the garden's network of scenic trails, which stretch for over 9 km (5 mi) and offer sweeping views of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Don’t miss one of the garden's signature features--an old rock dam--constructed in 1806 by Native Americans. Be sure to walk all the way to the garden's redwood grove, a cool resting place even on the hottest of summer days. • OK, we went the first part of November and almost nothing was blooming. I walked the entire loop. It was no more exciting than an easy hike in the woods. Nice but nothing at all exciting. Maybe if you...  more »
  • It is very nice. It is not as grand as the more well known gardens, but it has depth and is a nice way to spend a few hours. Enjoyed it!
  • Coming from Europe I expected something greener in a botanic garden but of course the water condition has to be considered and the autumn may not be the best for blossom. Due to lack of time we were u...  more »

  • Beautiful, inspiring, wonderful treasure of Santa Barbara! Don't miss it tourists & don't forget about it Santa Barbarians!! Membership prices are the best deal in town! Go Enjoy!!
  • Maybe it is because of the drought, but everything was dead and dried up. There were signs suggesting that a plant had once been there...we paid to go on a hike essentially. Go to the San Diego Zoo if you are interested in beautiful (and well labeled) plant life.
  • A great place to enjoy nature away from the excitement of State Street. Very quiet and peaceful, a surprisingly long string of trails to hike along. I saw cholla cactus, redwood trees, and blue-belly lizards. Also, was lucky enough to meet several of the staff here; all of them were extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and excellent conversationalists.
  • The Garden was not well structured (in the map, given at the entrance, the garden looks a lot more interesting). Only few informations about the plants and shown habitats. Due to the drought a lot of plants were not in a good shape. The entrance fee was quite high (10$).
  • I take my walks on the beautiful trails in the gardens. I always learn something new about our native habitat. I especially love the redwood Grove. Of course, I always have to check out the gift shop and the nursery. I get full use out of my membership!
