Sanibel Island Lighthouse, Sanibel Island
(3.7/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
The historical Sanibel Island Lighthouse was finally erected in 1884 after several decades of pressure from locals. It marked the entrance to San Carlos Bay for ships visiting the once-busy port of Punta Rassa. Today, the lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and a popular end destination for beach strolls. Though you cannot enter inside the lighthouse or keeper's house, the grounds are a pleasant place to explore and take photos. Put Sanibel Island Lighthouse into our Sanibel Island trip generator and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Got a chance to see the Sanibel Lighthouse, worth the stop, we didn't pay the $4.00 parking fee, just drove through the area, shot a few pictures of the lighthouse and beaches. If I'm back in that are...  more »
  • Interesting lighthouse design/construction ... unfortunately you can't climb it and look around. Located on a nice beach, fun to look for shells, or watch folks fishing and sitting in sand chairs. Fee...  more »
  • We spent a few days here on our vacation. Ample parking, with fees. Great for walking or shelling. You can walk for a long time. Beautiful beach and sand, very clean. The lighthouse isn't that much to...  more »

  • Beautiful place to visit. The beach is great and has its own feel to experience. Just have to be a little careful in the water, the undercurrent can be very strung since its where the intercoast and coastal waters meet
  • Lots of information about the lighthouse and the wildlife. There are lots of shells and things to see. Great place to bring kids and families.
  • Not much to see at the lighthouse. The buildings are all closed off, and you can just look at it. Worth stopping at if you come to the beach and want to walk around. There are bathrooms nearby.
  • Beautiful view, especially during sunrise and sunset. Ft. Myers Boat Tours go in close proximity to the lighthouse, and the beach is wonderful as well
  • Nice pier close by for fishing. There is a shaded picnic area near the lighthouse.
