Bowman's Beach, Sanibel Island

Categories: Beaches, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web
As the only west-facing beach on Sanibel Island, Bowman's Beach is considered to have the best sunset views and is noted for its more adventurous bayou area. Miles of scenic shoreline along this beach are almost completely unobstructed, as this is one of the least-developed, and therefore most naturally beautiful, areas of the island. In addition to beachside activities, you can watch wildlife from the nearby bridge or take a kayak ride. The parking lot for this beach is a 10-minute walk from the beach itself, but many visitors believe this peaceful stretch of paradise is worth the trek. Make Bowman's Beach a centerpiece of your Sanibel Island vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Sanibel Island trip itinerary planner.

  • This place is very different from the beaches we seen in RI, NC, and even the east of FL. This beach is filled up with all types of shells, made it very pretty. If you want see more shells, come on a ...  read more »
  • This is one of my favorite beaches for shelling. While you can't park right at the beach, they have plenty of parking.
  • We drove to Sanibel for a day trip and we enjoyed the beach. We did wish we had taken a beach umbrella because the sun was very intense. The water was too rough for swimming but we enjoyed the beach B...  read more »
  • Nice flat beach area. The walk that others complain about is 5 minutes. No big deal. No touristy stuff around which is great. Most of the time the waves are not large. Unlike the East coast. Its Florida. Buy a screw in the sand umbrella for a little shade and you will have a vastly improved time. As you are walking to the beach through the trees, veer to the left. 90 percent of the people go to the right.
  • There was a lot of space to park. Beautiful beach with lots of pretty sea shells. It also wasn't very packed which was nice! Has a restroom, changing room and a pop machine which was a plus. Love love love it!
  • Nice beach. Short walk to car (about 5 min worth). Getting there before 11 is a good idea as parking fills quickly. Good bathroom and shower. Shells are plentiful and the beach is great for kids.
  • Nice spot. GREAT earlier in the morning. Great family spot with nice bathroom facilities
  • In short: Go to a different beach if you want anything other than nice bathrooms. Suggestions would be Lighthouse Beach, farthest north public beach on Captiva, or Tigertail in Naples. All of these have $2 per hour parking as opposed to $4 for Bowman's. Pros: Great facilities nearby to beach Lots of space on beach Cons: Long walk from lot to beach compared to ALL other beaches on island and in surrounding communities. Expensive parking relative to distance required to walk from parking lot to beach which was approx 15 mins each way if carrying anything so you'll be paying $2 to walk in and out.
