The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is a rose garden located at the intersection of Naglee and Dana Avenues, San Jose, California, in the Rose Garden neighborhood.The garden, 5.5 acres in size, was once a prune orchard, but was bought by San Jose in 1927 and is now exclusively devoted to roses. It features more than 3,500 shrubs representing 189 rose varieties.As an official Display Garden for the All-America Rose Selections (AARS), the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden receives AARS award-winning roses in advance of public release. In the early 2000s, city budget cuts impacted the garden, which led to the AARS placing it on probation. In 2007 Friends of the San Jose Rose Garden (FSJRG) was established, a volunteer nonprofit organization whose mission was to restore and renovate the garden. In 2008 the AARS lifted the garden from probation and restored full accreditation, and the following year over 800 new roses were planted as part of the restoration project.On May 2, 2009 it was rededicated as an official AARS test garden, one of 23 in the US and the only one in Northern California.On December 15, 2009 the restoration of the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden was nationally recognized on the Corporation for National and Community Service website.On August 12, 2010 the AARS named it "America's Best Rose Garden", in the first nationwide contest of its kind. The winning garden was selected based on beauty, creativity and community involvement.The Municipal Rose Garden is a City of San Jose historic landmark.

  • We went here to kill time. It was a very beautiful park. It has a peaceful atmosphere and tranquil feel. There are hundreds of different types of roses at the park, all being very pretty.  more »
  • A lovely venue for picnics, stroller walks or a romantic walk. This park, with its lovely fountain, glorious roses and shady redwood trees, is a great place for a family or couple to spend time.  more »

  • This is a place on the way from the Winchester House to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum that you should not miss. The vastness and variety of the rose bush plants is amazing. But be warned, that when the local schools are having their grad ceremonies this is the spot many chose for their day in the sun. {Yep, got there that day and could not find a parking spot nor any way to stop and smell the roses.}
  • This is such a lovely place to spend a little time. The roses are always well maintained and you are allowed to walk on the grass and get close to them. There's also a large grassy area that people sometimes have events at. I've seen a wedding ceremony or two being set up here. No dogs allowed and no picking the roses.
  • This was a really nice place. It was just a nice and relaxing environment that was filled with roses and not too many bees. There was even a fountain in the middle of the park that had geese and little ducklings. However, the mother goose somehow got out, and was trying to follow her children, and was a little aggressive until someone lifted her up and put her back in. There was also amazing ice cream that only cost $2 a cone!
  • Wow. One of the most beautiful places in California. Roses in all colors you could imagine are blooming here during Spring, mainly in May. The place is big and well maintained. It will make you speechless as it's just so beautiful. The air is filled with the scent of roses and you just don't want to leave anymore. Park one or two blocks away to see the beautiful houses at University avenue as well. An amazing area.
  • Nice cute garden that one can visit during spring or summer. Went there on a weekend early evening and easily spent couple of hours there. Good variety of roses in the garden. Very peaceful and serene. Lovely place to hangout or walk around. Will take my parents and family once they are in town.
