The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is a rose garden located at the intersection of Naglee and Dana Avenues, San Jose, California, in the Rose Garden neighborhood. The garden, 5.5 acres in size, was once a prune orchard, but was bought by San Jose in 1927 and is now exclusively devoted to roses. It features more than 3,500 shrubs representing 189 rose varieties. As an official Display Garden for the All-America Rose Selections (AARS), the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden receives AARS award-winning roses in advance of public release. In the early 2000s, city budget cuts impacted the garden, which led to the AARS placing it on probation. In 2007 Friends of the San Jose Rose Garden (FSJRG) was established, a volunteer nonprofit organization whose mission was to restore and renovate the garden. In 2008 the AARS lifted the garden from probation and restored full accreditation, and the following year over 800 new roses were planted as part of the restoration project. On May 2, 2009 it was rededicated as an official AARS test garden, one of 23 in the US and the only one in Northern California. On December 15, 2009 the restoration of the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden was nationally recognized on the Corporation for National and Community Service website. On August 12, 2010 the AARS named it "America's Best Rose Garden", in the first nationwide contest of its kind. The winning garden was selected based on beauty, creativity and community involvement. The Municipal Rose Garden is a City of San Jose historic landmark.

  • The rose gardens are quite big and well-tended. It's a nice place for a stroll or a picnic. The restrooms were in good order when we visited.
  • San Jose is the Tech Mecca of the world with "Silicon Valley" and the vast concrete jungle. However, this is a great reprieve from all that. Quiet, colorful and calming are just a few of the words I w...  read more »
  • Small park with few features other than the Rose Garden itself. Take some time, there are some fantastic roses planted in here that might give you some inspiration to plant your own. Super easy parking, and near to a library!
  • Very large and filled with roses of all types & colors. Neatly laid out with grassy pathways to explore. Each bed is labeled to allow you to find a rose you like to plant at home. Lots of room, grassy field to run on. There are many tall redwoods to give scale and shade. Bo pets, please. Facilities available for personal needs. In the midst of a quiet & lovely neighborhood,,
  • Beautiful gated park. Being gated made it a lot less accessible. We drove around to find an opening. At a park. I guess if you want to have America's Best Roses you have to keep them safe. Nice amount of benches and tables. Four weddings during our weekend visit. I wanted to take a pic of the roses with my 7D but didn't want to get eyed for being a commercial photographer. Because you need a permit to take pictures at this public park. WTH!?
  • All of the roses are blooming today and I purposely parked on the opposite side of the park so i could walk toward the sight. I got a subtle smell of the blooming roses as they came into view of the fountain. This place is so relaxing. You can sit near many varieties of roses and admire the colors and smells of them. There is a nice blue fountain in the middle with benches to sit on. Then sound of the water is relaxing too. There are some strategically placed redwood trees that look majestic in this this park. Come, walk around and see the many different roses in this award winning rose park. Sit in the grass or on a bench and relax during lunch. Walk or jog around the park if you want to get some exercise. The neighborhood is upscale and the homes are worth looking at too. This is a very safe area. There are water fountains and restrooms too. Kids love walking or running around. There are many people with cameras here and everyone has a smile on their face. It's a very unique park and right now April 25, 2016 the roses are in full bloom. This is another gem of a park in San Jose. Come here now and I promise that you will leave relaxed and happy for the experience.
  • This garden is wonderful! So many colors, aromas and flowers. Perfect place for wedding photos. And not only for wedding, of course! You can take a rug and organize a picnic there. Scooters and bikes are not allowed. There are restrooms for men and women in the park. So don't worry. The best time to visit it is weekdays. No crowd and you can enjoy every bush. On weekends it's little crowdly.
