  • This mission had some great artifacts. I liked all of the written information explaining the various things around the grounds. Such as the water well.  more »
  • Quintessential mission, nice preservation of an aging church. Now it is surrounded by urban chaos rather than the farms, Padres, and Native Americans. Worth a visit.  more »
  • San Gabriel was the 8th mission we have visited in California, and the Mission Church is quite beautiful, with many works of Spanish colonial art. The larger mission itself and courtyards seemed to be...  more »

  • Went on a school field trip to the mission. We had a great docent guide us around. I have been here several times and still learned something new. It's as great place to leave about CA history. Of course they don't really discuss a lot of what happened to the CA Indians which also needs to be addressed. Very interesting place to spend a day.
  • Great place on San Gabriel Valley area. Where we can learn the Mission history. Learn more about the great people have done for us. Highly recommended for young student. Also very relaxing in here to enjoy the calm of the building among the noisy railroad
  • We visited the San Gabriel Mission after my wife finished reading a book about one of it's founding priests, Junípero Serra. It was very cool. It costs $6 to get in, but there is quite a bit to see. There is the mission itself, a small museum, and the grounds a full of gardens, cemetery plots, a nice fountain, artifacts and even the remains of their winery and candle/soap factory. We just wish it had some relics. Those are super cool. The beauty of the many paintings and sculptures in the mission as well as the historical significants is enough to interest anyone out there. This would make a great day trip from LA, as it has as pretty cool town around it. Check out the Mission Theater, the many local historic restaurants, and even a few close other museums like the Ramon Parlor, a free museum just around the corner (though only open on Saturdays from noon-3).
  • I loved the Mission. I felt such peace there. I did hear someone knocking and someone walking up stairs but no one was there. We told the grounds man and he said that's nothing! He sees a lot more than that! I wasn't scared. The museum is small but holds many beautiful items.
  • Beautifully restored with a museum and gift shop, the mission gives you a sense of life in California in the late 1700's. Beautiful church. Visiting when the grapes are ripe would be amazing.
