The original Steinhart Aquarium opened in Golden Gate Park in 1923. It quickly became world famous for its novel exhibits and unusual animals, and was the model for many of the public aquariums that opened in the years that followed. Several components of the old Steinhart Aquarium have returned in the new aquarium, which opened back in the park in 2008, including the dramatic entrance columns, the vaulted ceiling, the sea horse railing, and the Swamp (alligator) exhibit. New technologies and advances in animal husbandry have made it possible for the Steinhart to create a suite of stunning new aquarium exhibits, including the world’s largest and deepest indoor coral reef, a four-level rainforest display, and more.

With novel exhibits and cutting edge technology this is a gemstone in Golden Gate park while not the onlt attraction, I think it is the best reason to visit the park.

We covered the 90 metre transparent tunnel to observe countless marine animals of San Francisco Bay and surrounding waters, trying unique sensations, with the chance to touch sharks, stingrays and starfish in the hot Touch touch the Bay. We admired a giant Pacific octopus, one of the most unique marine animals of San Francisco Bay. Beautiful also the sea lions that gave us unique and engaging moments. Perfect for all ages, we had a blast. Opening hours from Monday to Sunday from 9.00 to 21.00. I bought tickets online for a fee of 20 euros per person.show original

My favorite aquarium in SF. The aquarium is part of Cal academy. They have a number of large tanks that you can view from above and below. The rain forest bubble drops you off in a glass tunnel that goes through a tank of large freshwater fish.
Mesmerize your kids.
Very exciting place to visit. Amazing Science Museum in SF that takes one's curiosity from oceans to rivers to islands and continents, to the rain forest, and to the planets-stars. One ticket gets you to all these exhibits - you can spend a full day here. The nightlife on Thursdays is vibrant and super fun - as the hip crowd shuffles in from 6:00 till 10:00 PM. I got a member deal and visit this place as often as I can.
