Presidio of San Francisco, San Francisco

(1,300+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site Military Facility
It may come as a surprise that Presidio of San Francisco, the oldest continuously used military base in the country, also boasts acres upon acres of beautiful parkland. Despite its military involvement, the area is filled with forests, creeks, and walking trails where you can escape the urban bustle. Seek out hills with excellent views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the city, and the ocean. Get a dose of history with a tour the cfficers' club, a historical building once used for U.S. Army officers and their families to socialize. If you aren't sure what to do first, get a map and more information from the staff at the visitor's center. • Man, the Presidio is a secret place most locals knows about. You are not a local unless you pass through here. There are endless places to hike, jog, run, or simply ride your bicycle. If you love photography, the sunrise and sunsets here overlooking Golden Gate Bridge is breathtaking. I have recently taken an interest in learning about native wildflowers (during my downtime) which explains my recent visit at the Presidio. Hard to believe growing up in San Francisco, I get to enjoy all this nature in the heart of San Francisco. Cheers!
  • The Presidio is such a beautiful place to spend the day. You can enjoy the great views of the Golden gate bridge and the Bay, do some light hiking, go jumping at the trampoline gym or have a picnic. So much to do around here.
  • Lovely, great trails, beautiful views...there's an old military bunker thing you can stand on the roof of and you can walk around and see the old doors and from the edge of the view of the golden gate Bridge spot there is narrow little trails where you can walk through the hill through the flowers and stuff!
  • The Presidio is an astonishing district with a blend of nature, architecture, and history. Whether driving, walking, or biking there are a number of vistas and turnoffs.
  • Great place for a hike! A few slightly off the beaten path trails, lots of nice paths, and tons of military history.
