4.6/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
It may come as a surprise that Presidio of San Francisco, the oldest continuously used military base in the country, also boasts acres upon acres of beautiful parkland. Despite its military involvement, the area is filled with forests, creeks, and walking trails where you can escape the urban bustle. Seek out hills with excellent views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the city, and the ocean. Get a dose of history with a tour the cfficers' club, a historical building once used for U.S. Army officers and their families to socialize. If you aren't sure what to do first, get a map and more information from the staff at the visitor's center. • We did our usual, driving to the Presidio, then to the Officers Club for a nice lunch. We enjoy San Francisco every year.
  • Beautiful grounds and a perfect view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Lots of Military history on that site. Could use a few more signs describing the history.
  • Pretty place to visit. Food trucks on weekends. Some good museums. Walking distance to Crissy fields.
  • One of my favorite places to bike to from Oakland. Great views, good climbs, good food nearby, and beautiful historical sites. Whats not to like?
  • Terrific views and easy access to some of the best urban parkland in America. Park at the Golf Course and enjoy the many trails that run throught that area. You'll find amazing views of the bay, Golden Gate Bridge and the city.
  • I love walking around this area. It feels like a totally different side of SF and it makes it feel like you stepped back 50 years. It's refreshing!
  • Take a break from the city without leaving its boundaries. Visiting the Presidio is like going into a forest, complete with hills, hiking, beaches, old forts, and museums. Bring a jacket.
