  • Stood in line at Market and Powell Street for an 1 hour 15 minutes, for the ride that has made San Francisco so famous world wide. It was a cool, brisk 55 degrees and the sun was shining. The Car Operator made us laugh with their inspiring personality and stating "Next Car" at almost every stop along the line as the car was full. Worth a $6 one way for the experience. It runs by the crookedest street, cable car museum, china town which are all great tourist attractions. Video of the entire trip on my YouTube Channel. Recommended. Thanks for reading.
  • It was a fun experience but I wouldn’t do it again. We stood in line at the Powell and Market St stop for over an hour. It’s $7 per person. Either buy your ticket at the ticket office next to the line or pay cash when you get on the cable car. At this stop, there were some cable cars to the side that they allowed people to get on and take pictures on. Also we rode the Powell and Hyde line to Lombard Street and got off there.
  • Very touristy, very San Francisco-esque but also involves very long lines/waits and is pretty steeply priced. Worth doing once for the experience and the sheer pleasure of going down the hill towards the Bay with stunning views and the wind in your face. The cable car museum is a nice quick visit spot too, to understand the workings of this historic transit system.
  • Fantastic experience and well worth the $7.00 fare. Driver was awesome. The only thing that would have made it better would be an option to stop at the cable car museum and hop back on without having to pay another fare
  • That was incredible. It all started with a Group of 30 people praying we could get on the same cable car, and turned into a memorable experience I will never forget for the rest of my life. The breeze, the sun, the bells. If you go to this city, this experience is a must.

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
