So many beautiful flowers, bones and trinkets! I love this store, great for browsing many unique items. It's my favorite place to buy smaller houseplants. I've purchase numerous air plants, a maidenhair fern, and a few succulents, all of which have been very healthy. Staff has always been super helpful, walking me through care instructions.

Curiouser and curiouser! If you're looking for a unique gift, new air plants or just a shop that will make your kids say 'wow'! Then Paxton Gate is a place to try. They have a wide selection of taxidermy, posters, jewellery and more to style your home, or gift that person who has everything. It really is a great store which you could easily lose an hour. It's a lovely bright space and they even have classes for you to attend if you want to learn curious skills.

Coolest collection of dead stuff I've ever seen! From dressed up nice to fossils to butterflies...a must visit once kind of place!

The store is like a natural history museum crossed with a garden shoppe. Magical wonders here aplenty. Awesome plant selection, great books, jewelry, etc.

Wall down the ramp and be greeted with an eclectic mix of indie and experimental music, scented candles and taxidermy creatures. Skulls of various animals watch you as you make your way past scientific reading such as "How To Survive A Garden Gnome Attack", while rays of sunlight dance around the hanging plants and skylights. All in all, a very interesting and highly recommended experience!

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
