  • This is a lovely stretch of land aptly named as it leads to The Golden Gate Park. There are two paths on either side, one is walking only, the other shared with bikes and scooters et al. Some nice sta...  more »
  • This part of Golden Gate Park is in the middle of the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood and is surrounded by some great houses and apartments. Well-used park. Lots of traffic whizzing by.  more »

  • It's the bomb. And sups sick. No question. A 5 star, baller status locale. Don't even question it, just go there
  • Fuchsia Dell is of the first quiet green spaces you encounter on the eastern side of Golden Gate Park. Follow Hayes Street until it ends at Stanyan, cross the street and head west one block on the paved path and look for the sign announcing the dell. Coast redwoods and other trees shade little coves and grassy expanses dotted with green park benches. There's even a sundial in the first grassy area on the right as you enter the dell. A number of flowers will delight your eyes, especially the purple, pink and red fuchsias that give this area its name. Continuing walking west and you'll find yourself at the Conservatory of Flowers.

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
