Nob Hill, San Francisco

4.4
#11 of 24 in Neighborhoods in San Francisco
Neighborhood Landmark
Explore the elegant neighborhood of Nob Hill, boasting superb views and a location conveniently close to downtown San Francisco. A few charred stone walls around the area serve as a testament to its destruction during an earthquake and fires in 1906. Historically an upper-class quarter, it remains so today, boasting a striking cathedral and hotel rebuilt after the earthquake--plus one dizzyingly steep street. The sharp inclines throughout the neighborhood can be a challenge, but cable cars will help you along the way. After sightseeing, explore the many popular restaurants, clubs, and bars, or relax outside in the city parks. • This part of town has gorgeous buildings from when the big 4 railroad barrons ruled. It is a definite must see. The most historic place in San Francisco.  more »
  • Is a recommended place if subsequent San Francisco, you can explore in everyday life of the local people. People pushing carts heaped with wine and organic vegetables in the cute dog and people walk around, people running health conscious minimalist, Super!. Is a nice place to casual with elegant buildings, and entered the shop chatting and relaxing time. You can walk without hesitation because there is a folksy Western Pacific Heights block.

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
