  • Seemingly one of the lesser known areas in the city, it is a very pretty area. We chose to catch a bus (#3) to the top (nearest stop is about 2-3 blocks away), then head down. We particularly enjoyed ...  more »

  • Stunning view of the Bay. Also a great place for a street workout. It's buzzing from early in the morning, good for motivation!
  • Beautiful area to unwind, enjoy a majestic view and go up and down the stairs to lose some calories. You wont be dissapointed.
  • I absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I came here to take maternity pictures. It was absolutely breathtaking. We were so pleased with the view of the city we climbed every step. Mind you I'm 9 months pregnant and die in 9 days. If I can climb those steps I know you can too. If you live in the city or anywhere in the baby you should pay this place a visit. I moved to the bay two years ago and this was my first time to this place. If it wasn't for maternity shoot I would have never found this place. If I live here in the city I would probably be here every weekend running those steps. There are at least 200 steps here. It's worth the try if you want some intense workout while overlooking the city. You will not regret coming here I promise you. Be sure to come in your tennis shoes though because there ARE A LOT OF STEPS!!!!
  • One of favorite things to do I'm SF, anytime I visit SF I always come here. Love the vista, it can't be beat. Great place to exercise too!
  • Great views of the ocean, palace of fine arts. It seems like a great place to work out as well because running up and down the stairs sure made me tired! There's also a SF heart there that makes it the picturesque spot! Not many tourists so ample space to take great photos!

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
