Fort Mason Center, San Francisco

(4.3/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Part of the National Park system, Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture was founded in 1977 as part of the newly formed Golden Gate National Recreation Area as a place for the community to come together for all things art, culture, and food -- visit one of the museums or galleries, host a festival or wedding, attend a class or conference, stroll along the water, fish from the piers, or enjoy a bite and cup of coffee at Greens, Goody Cafe, Cooks & Company or grab a drink at The Interval. Shop the Sunday farmers' market, and definitely check out the largest food truck gathering in the U.S.: Off the Grid, which happens on Fridays between April-October.

  • Been there a number of times on business and it was a cool place in a fly location. Great view of the water.
  • Center for art and culture is located in the hangars of the former military warehouses. There are museums, galleries, concert halls, shops. We liked the Mexican Museum with a historic collection of Mexican art and culture. In the gift shop you can buy ceramics, textiles and jewellery. Since the Center is part of the Golden Gate national recreation area, here you can relax and admire the wonderful views of the coast and the island of Alcatraz.

  • You pass by the Fort Mason to go toward the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a subidinha to get there, especially if you are a bike. But, the view is beautiful. In the park there are always people sitting and doing a little snack.

  • This is a pretty good venue for events. Getting down to the area can be difficult as you may be routed around all the buildings, and there are only bathrooms at the very front of the building. I think the fire capacity is 2500, and still there is only one set of bathrooms!
  • Good place for hosting events in San Francisco given the limited land area available. Has a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Halls are large and provide a good environment. Great place for Off The Grid, but parking isn't ideal. Better to take public transit.
  • Beautiful views going but could be kept better. The term "Fort" is a bit deceiving. A cool statue of a congressman and What I think is a native woman. Worth a walk up if you have time.
  • I've come here for many different events in their various buildings. Some host art gallerias, so restaurants, some empty for special events. The weekend it's very busy here, they also host a farmer's market on the weekend, I can't actually remember which day though. Paid parking is a required 7 days a week, they do have people checking.
  • Love going down to Fort Mason for events because you can always enjoy the beautiful view, too.
