Flea Market Shopping
Hosted by a nonprofit organization, Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market offers diverse, local products in front of the Ferry Building. • I was in San Francisco for the day on July 22, 2017. I had read about this Farmers Market being one of, if not the best in the US. I must agree with this. It had music, some of the most beautiful prod...  more »
  • This's one of the biggest and most amazing farmers market I've been to. The choice of cheese, fruits and meals is exciting. A must for tourists! Besides a chance to wander around the Ferry Building or...  more »
  • We thought it was vibrant (though we can’t compare to similar venue’s in SF). All of the vendors we met were caring and modest, and so many were generous in sharing samples & tastes.  more »

  • Cheap and wonderful organic produce! Everyone is so helpful and informative. I love to visit on the weekend and fill up my fridge with fresh produce for the week!
  • Some very good places for food, coffee, beer, wine, etc. The view from my "secret spot" is also awesome. It is a food Mecca when you know the places that have the best stuff.
  • I love the food selection they have. Everything is very fresh and the staff is super friendly at each stall. The only bad thing about this farmers market is that it's in the middle of tourist central. Everything is over priced. The free tastings they have for items vendors are selling are awesome, but I would purchase any actual grocery items on my list while I'm here. The seating gets pretty packed and sometimes it is hard to find seats, but people move fast.
  • Fresh fruits, organics and natural produce available from locals and regional farmers at reasonable prices. A bit out of the way for most locals unless you work in the Embarcadero district, but definitely worth a stop to get some healthy items to stock up on and take home while supporting the local economy.
  • A must do in SF. Great atmosphere. Good places for lunch. Buy local food and staff. Also near the sea. Perfect spot!

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
