Crissy Field, San Francisco

4.6
#8 of 46 in Parks in San Francisco
Enjoy the outdoors under a spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge at Crissy Field. Known as the Presidio’s front door, the former air base-turned-into-a-park is a favorite recreational area for both locals and visitors. The area is clean, safe, and well maintained and is particularly popular with cyclists and joggers. If you want to relax, you can enjoy the sandy beach or go for a picnic. The kids enjoy wide-open areas to play, while the pet owners can take their dogs off the leash and let them splash in the surf. Bring sunglasses and layered clothes, because the San Francisco weather can be chilly and windy, even in the summer months.   Plan your Crissy Field visit and explore what else you can see and do in San Francisco using our San Francisco trip generator.

Crissy Field is a former runway of arei, which is located in the Marina, near the Presidio, now turned into a huge green area where you can make beautiful walks and admire the Golden Gate toward the East and Alcatraz nearly opposite. Unfortunately when we were there, even though it was June, it was very foggy, anyway the place really deserves a break ... and a walk. There is also a visitor centre and, at the eastern end, a very well as a place to drink, eat or shop for souvenirs. Highly recommended. Luca

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
