After crossing the city and Golden Gate Park by bike, we discovered the Beach Chalet by chance, and very pleasantly greeted, we had lunch meat and fish with a good glass of wine. Place obsolete but charming, and the food is good!

We had reserved a table overlooking the sea and unfortunately were a quarter of an hour late, but you had still not forgiven the table. Furthermore we enjoyed very and a big +! Because the sunlight was still too intense, even the Janousien were down but also by the blinds, you could see the sea. The food and drinks were delicious and made worthy of the price. The user friendly. For the sunset are we gone down then to the beach but was also a great view from the restaurant.

Friends who live in SF took me here for lunch. The place was a beach house for bathers at the beach across the street and had apparently fallen into some disrepair, only to be thankfully restored and ...  more »

Get there early and go to the downstairs one for seats backing on to the park. Then let the kids run wild and drink! Good for those without small ones too. Food is kind of as expected. Beer is good. Someone is our group didn't like the Bloody Mary. For service it's was quicker just to go to the bar.

We came here for lunch around 1:00 PM. There were a lot of people lined up to put in their name for a table, but there were a couple open seats at the bar so we decided to eat there. However, they warned us the kitchen was backed up. We placed our order right away for chowder and a salad, thinking there's no cook time required. We enjoyed the beers while waiting. We finally got our food about 30 minutes later, and both my wife's and my chowder was room temperature. To the bartender's credit, he noticed our reaction and called over a manager right away. The manager apologized, took away the cold soups, and returned with piping hot chowder. It was actually very good, and so was the salad. They also took the chowder off our bill without us asking. So a few bumps, but they recovered well and we were ultimately happy with our visit. We would definitely return.

We tried the $13 sampler for all their beer- *every single* beer style was made so perfectly and well-balanced. The food was exquisite and well-portioned, the braised ribs and ceviche were exceptional. There was a chocolate pudding dessert with smoked caramel salt that our server described as a 'Ferrari'. He was 100% correct, it was amazing!! And, of course, the view of the Pacific while you have dinner is a beautiful experience. I will absolutely be returning to this restaurant when I return to San Francisco.

Expected food to be average based on all the reviews and suspicion the place may be too touristy with its view. However, deviled eggs, mushrooms, potato gratin, and organic chicken were very good. Pleasant surprise, not to mention the great service and kindness from waitress Elena and host Mark. Try the homemade lemonade too!

Absolutely and utterly not worth the stop. This place lacks service and kitchen competence. The lobster mac and cheese was too waterty and lacked flavor of any kind including cheese and lobster. The truffle fries did not taste as it should; crispy and salty enough to flavor. We also ordered a salmon salad which had a small piece of it that was probably 3 ounces for an extra $9? Not something you'd want to spend money on. On the other hand, the mussles were fair in taste with the tomato sauce. A little piece of advice for the owners: some people pay for the food, not for the view.

Where to stay in San Francisco

From inexpensive hostels in quiet residential areas to high-end hotels near the city center, San Francisco has accommodations for every budget. Key consideration is what kind of neighborhood you want to stay in. You'll find luxury hotels in Union Square, which has prime shopping, is near theaters, and is on the cable car line. Many hotels are in the northeastern portion of the city, near the tourist-driven neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf, both easily explored on foot. To get away from the tourist crowds, consider the smaller inns and family-run bed and breakfasts in some of the city's more charming neighborhoods, such as Noe Valley or Pacific Heights. There are also boutique hotels scattered around town. Avoid staying in the Tenderloin. If you plan to have a car with you, ask about parking availability and fees. Parking is often difficult and expensive.
