Baker Beach, San Francisco

4.6
#9 of 98 in Outdoors in San Francisco
While it remains too dangerous for swimming, Baker Beach is one of the best spots in the city to take in views of San Francisco's iconic bridge. This public beach stretches along the Pacific just northwest of the city, which makes it easily accessible by various modes of transportation. Keep in mind that the northernmost section of the beach tends to attract nudists. A visit to Baker Beach represents just the start of the adventure when you use our San Francisco trip planning app to plot your vacation.

  • Baker beach is a nice starting point for a hike along an undulating path upwards to the Golden Gate Bridge visitor center with beautiful views of the bridge, Pacific Ocean and Marin Headlands.  more »
  • We were there to us to watch the sunset. The beach bridge is very beautiful and well maintained with top view of the Golden Gate. Some other people there were of course, but it has not disturbed. Very recommend! :)

  • I have been to Baker beach about 4 times and its always a very relaxing experience. The parking lot is fairly small however I never have had an issue finding parking and it has not been very busy when I have been there. The last time I went, I stayed to watch the sunset and it was so beautiful. I love how the beach is not super long so that way you can easily walk the whole beach to see the bridge more close up.
  • Baker's beach in San Francisco is near the entrance of San Francisco Bay, just before you get to the Golden Gate Bridge,. It's a relatively wide Beach and it seems to be popular with the local population of The Frisco area. I visited the beach just before dusk and a lot of people were there waiting for the sun to set out over the Pacific Ocean. Most of the people were enjoying the sand, but there were very few people actually in the water, because I as I understand it is quite cold and the current can be swift. If you go closer to the Golden Gate Bridge on the beach you hit the nude part of the beach. While I was there there was several people men and women butt naked. Some of them you would have preferred they have their clothes on and some of them you were fine with their clothes not being on. None of the nude individuals seem to be concerned about the various folks with their cameras waiting to get good twilight shots of the Golden Gate Bridge. The long view photograph where the bridge is further away, was basically the family area of the beach. In the other two photographs that give you a close-up view of the bridge, that is where the nude beach bathers predominately hung out just beyond the rocks.
  • Loved it. Great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Very windy so wear a warm jacket. We were there in June and it was freezing to this southern girl.
  • Perfect place for your family or even just you and your SO! Always find myself here with my little guy enjoying the breeze, the view and the sand.
  • I love Baker Beach. It’s got some of the most beautiful views of the Golden Gate. Bring a sweat shirt or jacket. Even in the summer. Or should I say especially in the summer.
