Baker Beach, San Francisco
Categories: Beaches, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
A 1.6 km (1 mi) long stretch below rugged cliffs, Baker Beach offers panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands. Sunbathe (choose from clothing and clothing-optional sections), strike up a game of volleyball, or do a little fishing. Note that swimming is not advised because of the potentially dangerous surf. Hike the coastal trail on the cliffside or climb over the rocks on the north end, but watch for the tide so you don't get trapped. Tucked in the cypress grove at the east end of the parking lot are picnic tables, grills, and restrooms. Look for the Battery Chamberlain to learn about the early 20th-century "disappearing gun."
