Providing a home for 3,700 of some of the world's rarest animals, San Diego Zoo features pandas, gorillas, antelopes, orangutans, koalas, and much more. Noted for pioneering the concept of cage-free exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats, this zoo covers an area of almost 40 hectares (100 acres). Take guided tours on a bus, or hop on an overhead gondola to see the diverse habitats from the air. See different animals often found side by side in the wild, along with native plant life from places such as African rainforests and Arctic taigas. To view the collection of rare plants, visit the arboretum. Begin your visit at the visitor center, where you can pick up a free map. San Diego Zoo reviews
It's a great place to visit every decade or so. Lots of interesting animals but many dormant due daytime so some missed. Loved the elephants feeding themselves and all the others. Hadn't been... more »
I've heard about this zoo most of my life. After finally get the chance to visit, it did not disappoint! We bought the package deal which included tickets to the Safari Park and saved us a few bucks..... more »
Great time at the zoo. We had not been in a few years and we brought our grandparents. The motorized scooters were great. more »
It was a great experience. All of the animals looked stimulated and the habitat/exhibit design is superb. The zoo is very large, so if you want to see at least half of it, the bus tour is your best bet. The top isn't worth the hype, the bottom saw better views of the animals. Kangaroo buses are also good but the wait times can be pretty long. Very cool, and numerous gift shops throughout.
The zoo was amazing. A ton of animals out and about. Lots of viewing areas for all. I recommend going on a warm clear day, the animals are more playful during those times. I warn you about going to early, some of the animals are still sleeping at the time the park opens. It can all be seen in a day if you are quick. It was great to see so many exotic and cool animals. Staff is very helpful and friendly!
Absolutely love my time here! I met with wonderful Bria at the ticketing booth. She was so friendly, cheerful and helpful! Absolutely a delight to meet at the start of the day. It makes me feel wonderful to see all the koala 🐨 are so healthy. All the animal who were born in captivity are very happy with their environment. It good to know all the money goes to helping the animal who most needed. They have an amazing collection. Some of their animals, people search their whole life to see. Took the twilight tour, worth every penny. I saw an aye-aye with my own eyes and we get to stay until dark. we were the last 3 visitors allowed to stay after 5pm. San Diego Zoo is a must visit for San Diego.
I think one of the best Zoo's I have visited. Very well managed, the free bus rides are real good deal to have a feel of the place. There is a separate bus just to hop off and on. Lots of dining and quick eats options. Animals kept safe, some rare endangered species bred, the vegetation suited to animals. It's really a well maintained Zoo.
This is a massive zoo. The best one I have been to in my life. We spent 5 hrs walking and talking tours trying to see the most we could. I’m almost positive we still didn’t see it all. Only reason for four stars is because the aerial tram was closed during our visit. Overall a great experience.
