Providing a home for 3,700 of some of the world's rarest animals, San Diego Zoo features pandas, gorillas, antelopes, orangutans, koalas, and much more. Noted for pioneering the concept of cage-free exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats, this zoo covers an area of almost 40 hectares (100 acres). Take guided tours on a bus, or hop on an overhead gondola to see the diverse habitats from the air. See different animals often found side by side in the wild, along with native plant life from places such as African rainforests and Arctic taigas. We were very dissapointed about our trip to the San Diego zoo. Compared with other zoos the animals were located in a very small cage. This was not an adventure and we can´t recommend this trip.
This was a good time! A lot of animals, even though a lot of them were just sleeping or laying around. We went early when it opened and stayed about 4 hours (less time than we thought for a first time... read more »
Unbeknownst to us, our trip was taken during the zoo's centennial celebration. And, we didn't have to pay for our kid's admission as the zoo was holding a promotion for the entire month of October. Th... read more »
Great set up, lots of visible animals in natural habitat, fairly easy to get around; it's beautiful here. You don't have to walk a mile between exhibits. Food is pretty good, too, and parents can grab a craft beer if they want. Live bands at various spots in the park is a great idea, lots of fun!
This is hands down, the best zoo I have ever been to! You get a great workout and get to enjoy the animals in wonderful exhibits. My children love the children's zoo, bus, and skyride. And of course they love the animals. If you are military, active or national guard/reserve, you get in for free. Children can get an annual pass for the cost of a day trip. You can also bring your own food and drinks!!
Really great zoo. Depending on your speed you can see it all in a day. The bus tours are great and I would suggest doing that as one of the first things. We had a great time. The hippos were extremely active, pandas were awesome, and overall it was a great time. BRING SUNSCREEN....not because you'll likely burn, but because it's a total rip off to buy it at the gift shop. The cheapest I saw was nearly 20 dollars for 3 ounces of sunscreen.
It's world famous for a reason. Definitely one of the best zoos ever! They're always remodeling their exhibits to make sure they stay up to date for the animals and also to provide new experiences for visitors. You can definitely spend hours here.
The only place cooler than the SD Zoo is the Safari Park! There are a bazillion animals and exhibits. It's family friendly, informative, and a ton of fun. Prepare for walking a lot of hills. There are bus tours and other options available.
