Mission Beach Park, San Diego

4.4
#3 of 12 in Beaches in San Diego
Settle into a fun, carnival-like atmosphere at Mission Beach Park, where you can swim, lounge on the sand all day, or wander the area. You'll find plenty of food stands, bars, and street performers, and some fine-dining restaurants as well. You can surf, play sports, join beach boot camps, and even ride a rollercoaster or artificial waves. The mood is calmer at the opposite end of the beach, which features fishing spots and underwater shipwrecks you can explore. Parking spots are hard to find; buses and bikes are better options. Mission Beach, South of crystal pier, san diego is one of the longest. Volleyball, surfing, frisbee, you can pretty much do anything.

As far as beaches go this is a good one. Lined with places to shop and dine, this is worth a visit if you find yourself in San Diego.  more »

Beautiful beach. Large, wide, clean. Plenty of shops and restaurants located here next to a massive park. Decent parking, but can be problematic. Would highly recommend if you are seeking a nice place...  more »

Free parking, busy beach but clean and nice. Lots of lifeguards. There's a place with great looking rides but we didn't try it out though it came highly recommended by other parents.

I was there last night and go often. The boardwalk is long and great to run bike skate or walk and people watch. But the big fluffy dogs come out at night to beat the heat! This beach has a lot for everyone including surfers and other kids. Rent a beach cruiser and bike it. Stop at a bar or restaurant for local craft beer or live music. Pick up shells in early morning. Get a bikini tan or check out a bikini. But bring water there's no fountain. Expensive card only soda machine. Bathrooms concrete and metal toilets and always wet floors but for number of people well enough maintained. Just use caution and seat covers and make kids wear shoes in. Water areas for washing off sand no full showers. Lifeguards competent and used to the flirting! They train hard but arent on duty in towers all the time. Emergenc

Beautiful beach! The amusement park/arcade is great for the kids. Shops, restaurants and bars all within steps from the beach!

Best beach ever if you don't mind fighting for parking ( not being sarcastic) I love coming here but you have to get here early if you want a good spot on the beach

Been living in SD all my life... Never get tired of this! ☀️ Come walk, ride a bike or roller skate along the Boardwalk. Enjoy the breeze and smells of the ocean, foods and bonfires too. Play volleyball in the sand or just go to Belmont Park with the kids. #beautiful

Where to stay in San Diego

Offering accommodations at a wide range of price levels, San Diego is one of the easiest cities to stay in, regardless of whether you're simply passing through or hanging around for a long vacation. If you don't mind splurging, book your stay at a luxury downtown hotel or a lavish bayside resort. You can also rent a spacious private cottage within walking distance of the city's popular beaches. For a more affordable alternative, try a family-friendly hostel or quaint inn in a quiet residential area.
