Spanning more than 16 blocks of downtown San Diego, the city's historic center is called Gaslamp Quarter and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its Victorian-era buildings are now home to shops, sidewalk cafes, restaurants, bars, and more. Wander the streets and explore the many theaters, galleries, and museums that make the area a cultural hub. Be sure to keep an eye out for some of the replicas of the historical gas-powered lamps, the namesake of the district, which have been reinstalled at one intersection. There is so much to do here and within a short walk. The vibe at night is electric (sorry gas lamps). It's safe, fun, diverse, and not overly crazy. Better than Times Square imho.

Auch d... read more »We had met a nice district with charm. It's during the day but not really. Maybe it's a stupid comparison, but our visit to Hamburg in the sense came to me. Also the Reeperbahn is during the day, not necessarily the nightlife, but rather inconspicuous. A restaurant at the other and some beautiful buildings. We stopped but but more briefly there. Evening and night life rages here. My recommended visit time of under one hour refers to the visit during the day.show original
This is a must see area. Alot of restarants and pubs. Alot of vagrants and pan handling. But it is a fun place.
Fun to walk around in the evening. Great restaurants.
5th Avenue Auto Showcase in the Gaslamp this Sunday was more than I ever thought it would be for FREE. Tons of super nice cars GTO 1952 Volkswagen Beetle ELECTRIC if your going to go electric what a perfect cool car to do it in. Loved all the cars & then stopped off at Irish Pub
