A great place for surfing and swimming, San Clemente Pier is also an excellent spot for line fishing. Originally built in 1928, the pier was the vision of Ole Hanson, politician and founder of San Clemente. Stroll out onto the boardwalk for views of the palm-tree covered beach, ocean, and the Spanish-style architecture of San Clemente. Cast a line off the end of the pier for a chance to catch mackerel, barracuda, yellowtail, white sea bass, and even spiny lobster. Visit the Pier Shack and Grill on the boardwalk for burgers and seafood. San Clemente Pier is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, San Clemente Edition.

  • Beautiful views, shops and restaurants. San clemente is a great little vacation destination . Went there for my nephews beach front wedding. A great spot to get married
  • Walk out along the pier and watch the surfers and the fishermen and make sure to stop at one of the restaurants too.
  • San Clemente Pier is the picture of classic California coast. When you think of California you see the sun dipping into the ocean highlighting a lone surfer riding one more wave. We loved our visit he...  read more »
  • Fisherman's restaurant at the base, lifeguard tower 1/3 of the way down, bathroom facility around halfway, and a bait/snack shop toward the end. Benches, tables, and bait cleaning stations all along the way. Paid telescopes toward the base as well.
  • Very large Pier and has a pretty fun sandy beach right next to it. This is an awesome place for a casual stroll or picnic on the beach.
  • The pier is beautiful view of the ocean and a nice landmark at the beach. Fisherman occasionally pull in some interesting sea life, including sharks, which is exciting. I love running to the end and smelling all of the good food cooked by the restaurants as well.
  • I recently came to the area and was surprised by the cleanliness of the pier. There was a staff member who was going around and cleaning the railings with a rag and bucket, while I don't know what he was cleaning with, at least he was wiping the bird poop off. It was a decent length and there were many benches to sit and rest. There was also a lifeguard tower in the area. Thankfully, all the pier appeared in good working order and there was no broken boards. Every thing was in working order, even all the bathroom and shower area at the beginning of the pier. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely come back again.
  • The San Clemente Pier is about a two minute walk from my place, and I love going down there at any time of the day or evening. I may be biased because I live here, but the pier and beach area around it is one of the most beautiful in all of Southern California. The sunsets from the end of the pier are unparalleled. The pier is long enough to take a good walk, and yet it is not a big "party pier" like Huntington or some of the others near LA. This is a relatively quiet area, and there are a lot of families that walk out here, fishermen use it at night, and it is always chill and peaceful. Being a modest wood pier, one of the best things is that it tends to sway a little when the surf is high.
