This National Historic Landmark represents the last visual vestiges of the Presidio San Antonio de BĂ©jar. Traditionally known as the Spanish Governor's Palace, it was the original Comandancia (residence and working office) for the Captains of the military garrison from 1722 until the early 1800s.

Come see where Spain had its first permanent military presence in San Antonio. Come learn Texas' earliest history under Spanish rule. Come and be delightfully surprised at the beautifully landscaped gardens in the courtyard. You won't want to leave.

  • Cost to enter was $5. This is the historic Governor's home of San Antonio. It's very small house so you can finish this in about 30 minutes. This of the $5 as a donation and enjoy.  more »
  • Located near City Hall and Market Square, the Governors Palace is a small, but interesting museum. Hard to find, but well worth the effort to do so. Small entrance fee of $5 is charged.  more »

  • I love it here. The building is interesting but I just love the garden. It's rarely crowded and you can sit out in the quiet under the trees and listen to the fountains. It's not expensive to go to the museum so I visit most times I'm in San Antonio.
  • Beautiful place to check out. A hidden historical gem. Closed on Mondays. Entry fee is $5. You can also reserve the courtyard for special occasions.
  • A place not on the usually San Antonio visitors to do list but worth the time. Part of early Texas history. The lady working there was a virtual fount of information.
  • If you're on any sort of historical tour in San Antonio, this is an essential stop. I have been numerous times and always find it fascinating to be on those particular grounds. The history of Plaza de Armas is amazing, if you can find the right tour guide. Highly recommend visiting this place and taking your time to walk Main Plaza and visit Oliva Restaurant.
  • Not visited as often as other locations in the area but equally interesting place to see. Great information for architecture of the time and what restorations were done.
