San Antonio Zoo features 750 species of mammals, reptiles, birds(among the United States' largest collections), and amphibians. See the plains of Africa and lush jungles of Amazonia in this natural setting for over 9,000 animals. Observe different animal species as they share a common watering place, and watch a hippopotamus and a Nile crocodile up close through underwater viewing windows. You can hop on a train for a tour around the zoo, visit a butterfly garden, play with parrots, and ride a carousel. There's a lot of walking to do, so wear comfortable shoes and carry water with you. • Our kids love coming here, we come often with our membership. The zoo is a little older and could use a bit more updating, which I believe they are trying to do. The kids like hippo exhibit and the giraffe feeding area which is an extra fee. They also have a carousel and a butterfly exhibit as well for a fee. They also have an area for kids to splash in the water near the turtles. They have plenty of snack bars and a nice cool restaurant. They have great events for Halloween and Christmas too.
  • The San Antonio zoo is a joke. first for me was the entrance into the zoo. No maps were available so I spent the whole time there finding my way around the whole zoo. Then I bought the package deal where I was suppose to get a train ride, carousel ride, and this thing called the butterfly experience. Well when we went to the train ride, the train was out of order. And they said it could take about 2 hours to fix. I talked to the manager and he (Steve) basicly said I was out of luck cause there was no refunds. He told me I can wait until the zoo closes or I can come back another day. Oh by the way, I'm from out of town. I had already been there since 1200 it's now 3:45. Can you at least offer me a bottle of water. All I'm saying is it's not my fault the train is broke. And some accommodations for this unexpected occur ace would have been nice. But instead I was told come back or wait that's my only two options. So not only was the zoo not worth the money I spent but neither was the customer service. I'll never be back and I will warn everyone I know that the San Antonio Zoo is not worth your time or your hard earned money!
  • This is an older but definitely well thought out zoo. The work to bring the zoo up to modern standards is evident. The recent changes are very welcome, except the ending of the volunteer and docent presentations about he various animals which they used to do in the past. The new giraffe feeding venue is excellent for the little ones. I like it.
  • Zoo membership has double in the past 2 years we have had a membership every year since 2009 and this year we will not be renewing. They close early and is never clean! They are over charging for all the remodeled yet they never have enough staff working during the day time. The children's museum is a way better value and there is always staff that are always willing to educate children.
  • We are members and it is very affordable. The exhibits are awesome and interactive. We go at least once a week. The staff are amazing and knowledgeable. I will say it gets crazy on weekends but my son and I love our day trips to the zoo with train rides. The train is fantastic.
