Palmer Course at La Cantera, San Antonio

4.6
#1 of 11 in Golf in San Antonio
Tee up and keep your drives straight and true on Palmer Course at La Cantera, one of the most challenging courses in this region. Spanning nearly 6,400 m (7,000 yd), this Arnold Palmer-designed course requires even the world's top players to bring their A-game. As you play the course, which has been ranked among the top 50 golf resorts in the country by Conde Nast Traveler, try not to let slices and hook shots detract from the Texas hill country. Finish your round in the well-appointed, terra-cotta-roofed clubhouse. The hilly terrain can provide a rigorous workout if you choose to walk. Consider renting a cart to save your energy for your swing. Make Palmer Course at La Cantera a centerpiece of your San Antonio vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our San Antonio trip itinerary maker.

There are a few holes with blind shots. It is nice that the cart tells you when it is clear to hit. There is a lot of up and down playing this course. The bunkers are basically a thin layer of dirt wh...  more »

We saved this jewel for the last day of a 4 day, 7 round golf trip. It was well worth the wait! The staff was friendly and helpful, from the bag guys to the grill wait staff. The starter was very help...  more »

Played here twice the week of March 27th, 2017. Great green fees, very good staff. Lots of room off the tee. You will need to know where to be on the green. You find out when you get to the green. The...  more »

The course is great. The greens and fairways are fantastic. The views are great. The reason I gave three out of five is because the staff have attitude. I looked back over a few reviews and that issue has been reported before, so I'm guessing it's a problem. It certainly was for me. I bought a round of golf for two at a charity event. Called and made arrangements for a tee time. When I show up "Matt" asks for a copy of my document, so I give him a picture of the document that I took with my phone. He proceeds to tell me this isn't acceptable and they need the original document. I ask him to speak with the person who offered the charity package and he tells me, "You can talk to him but he's going to tell you the same thing." Look, I have no problem turning in the document, in fact, it makes sense. My problem was that it wasn't on the document. If it had said, "MUST BRING DOCUMENT FOR REDEMPTION", then I would have brought it. Also, no one said anything about this when I called and booked my tee time. Either one of those opportunities would have been superior to telling me that we can't golf 10 minutes before tee time. Also, there was no attempt to solve the problem on their part, no suggestions on how we can "fix" it. The feeling was basically, "Tough break, buddy" or "Too bad, pal." Seriously? Totally unacceptable for a supposed high end course. There are a number of solutions that we could have come up with to solve the problem and still golf at that time. I'll probably golf here again, but wanted to make sure and post that the people at this course have an attitude. And to be quite frank, I think there are other courses in San Antonio that are a better value. And as for customer service, well, I got better customer service at San Pedro golf.

Very nice course to play. Would have given it 5 stars, but the price of the green fees knock it down (Just a bit). Finishing hole is great. Pace of play can be an issue.

Fast greens, true rolls, but watch the grain! If putting into it, you've got to have good speed or you'll leave it woefully short. The 9th and 18th holes are great finishing holes. Can't wait to go back! There were a couple traps I came out of that had little sand in them.

This was my very first visit. Gorgeous place, nice hidden secret in San Antonio. I'm visiting from Illinois and my family lives here. Came to purchase some golf shirts and golf caps. Lunch was delicious and the view was amazing! My sister and I had a lovely time. Thank you very much. We will be back again!! :-)
