Mission San Jose Church, San Antonio
(4.6/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Founded in 1720, Mission San Jose Church is the largest of the missions in Texas and offers visitors a glimpse into the area's Spanish community life more than 250 years ago. This Catholic mission was rebuilt in limestone in 1768 and is dubbed Queen of the Missions because of its relative size compared to other nearby missions. A mission was not a church, but rather a Spanish community center with a religious focus. This particular mission underwent restoration in the 1930s and is most well-known for its detailed rose window. • The Alamo is the most popular, but my least favorite. The other missions are in a more natural state. Everyone has its own personality. If you want to see the real vintage San Antonio, go see as many ...  more »
  • A glance back to Texas' settlement. Video & exhibition center with lots of important details. The site itself wonderful. Must see while in the area.
  • A class of Texas history live. Intriguing and intelligent architecture, unlike many other missions I've ever met. The small houses that are part of the wall of site protection is the high point of the visit.

  • WOW, I learned a lot reading this I got all the information from this and its what I needed 🤓. So thank you 😊
  • I love this mission for its look and feel of what it was originally. The church, buildings, granary, and the walls forming the expansive enclosure.
  • The best mission in the city. Come here and take a walk tour with the park rangers who are very well versed in the history of the Mission and the entire San Antonio area.
