Mission San Jose, San Antonio

(4.9/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web)
Founded in 1720, Mission San Jose is the largest of the missions in Texas and offers visitors a glimpse into the area's Spanish community life more than 250 years ago. This Catholic mission was rebuilt in limestone in 1768 and is dubbed Queen of the Missions because of its relative size compared to other nearby missions. A mission was not a church, but rather a Spanish community center with a religious focus. This particular mission underwent restoration in the 1930s and is most well-known for its detailed rose window. • The mission was beautiful and the Rose Window was lovely. The map and information were very good. Good family place as well. Really good photo opportunities!  more »
  • The San Jose Mission is the best one to visit of the five around San Antonio. It is almost in original condition, with the entire wall still standing and some of the Indian rooms are open to see.  more »

  • This is my favorite mission in San Antonio. If you are visiting from out of town I suggest skipping the Alamo and coming here. You can lose yourself back in time and see how people use to live. The mill is awesome and the iconic arches of the main building are novel worthy.
  • Mission San Jose was my favorite to visit. I wasn't able to go into the church because a service was in session, but it looked really gorgeous inside just from peeking in the open doors. The grounds are really lovely and fun to explore.
  • This was my favorite and the most in tacked, it was so beautiful and inspiring!
  • Of all missions the most beautiful
  • Peaceful and beautiful
