Create an itinerary including Old Burying Point Cemetery
Established in 1637, Old Burying Point Cemetery is the second oldest known cemetery in the United States, featuring headstones so old that some are crumbling. Look for the burial spot of John Hathorne--apart from being the great-great grandfather of the famous writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, he was also the judge during the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Although no one knows where the victims of the trial were buried, a memorial has been erected at this cemetery. Numerous other intriguing people rest here as well, illustrating Salem's eerie and colorful past. • Such an amazing experience. The cemetery has such a serene feel to it. Seeing the graves and understanding the time that has lapsed since these people were laid to rest.

  • I really enjoyed walking around the cemetery and reading the headstones. It's a beautiful cemetery. The iconography from that time is a lot different than more modern cemeteries and it's beautiful...

  • What a cool experience. Got to walk along the path, and see some very old tombstones 15 and 1600s. It's amazing how well some of these stones have held up and how some haven't. Definitely an interesting place to visit. If you're in the area.
  • Taking away a person's job that they had for like four years is kinda low of you guys. I do not agree with what you guys are doing to this person's life. 😐🙄 SUPPORT DAVE AT THE MEMORIAL.!!!!!
  • Not cool trying to take away a man's business he has been doing for 4 years. SUPPORT DAVE AT THE MEMORIAL!
  • One of my favorite places in Salem. However, we had the most unpleasant experience with a very rude employee yesterday. A thin young man with long hair was working at the time. He was so unbelievably rude that we left almost immediately. My adult daughter merely stepped off of the path, not realizing the rules had changed. He literally screamed at her. I doubt Salem wants this type of behavior to represent their beautiful city. In the future, if we see him, we will NOT be stopping by the cemetery. A little kindness goes a long way!
  • Just renovated this is one of the oldest cemeteries in the area. It's a definite must see if you're going to Salem. Come at night for a full effect, its monitored and lit up for your safety
