  • A smaller, cozier alternative to Surly if you don't feel like being around a thousand other people and their crazy children (seriously, what is up with all the young parents who think bringing their kids to a brewery is a good idea?). You won't usually find a crowd of misbehaved spawn here, the beer is just as good (in some cases it's better), and they've got decent food to boot. The outdoor seating area here is peaceful, and the staff are knowledgeable about the beers they offer, so don't be nervous if you're not a beer expert. Not to be missed.
  • One of Saint Paul's best kept secrets — and one that is better off being shared! Not only do I think that Urban Growler has finally stepped up their beer game to the point of being one of my top ten favorite breweries to hang out at, they also have what I feel is the best damn burger in the Twin Cities....or at least in the running for top five. Their Midway Burger — are you kidding me? Properly grilled juicy hamburger patty with bacon and a special sweet onion glaze made with their porter — off the hook. They have generous outdoor seating for the warmer months of the year, and plenty of indoor seating as well, including a party room that is available for rent. Parking is also plentiful, too. If the lot is full, there is plenty of street parking. While their location is a little odd, I really don't mind driving back there. They're really not that far off Highway 280 and I-94. If you have been on the fence about trying Urban Growler, get off your duff and do check them out. Go have a few beers and enjoy a meal with the family or your friends.
  • Becoming a local icon as it is well known to be the only brewery in the region owned and operated by the better gender! The ladies have really built a nice facility. The have some excellent apps (the artichoke dip is outstanding). Great selection of brews that are quite well done. The funnest part is they have Bang brewing in a little metal hut structure right on the premises so you can grab from another selection just to add to the variety! Great spot for. Pub crawl as several other breweries not far away.
  • Amazing rehearsal dinner venue. Great service. Friendly and expedient staff. Liz set everything up, was detailed, and provided a great experience. Thank all staff here for making our rehearsal dinner perfect!
  • How in the world does this place have 4 stars? The service here was the absolute worst I have ever had at any restaurant. The food we had came to us cold, the staff (aside from our food runner) was incredibly unfriendly, and the beer my partner got took forever to get, was flat, warm, and undoubtedly from the bottom of the keg yet it was still served to us.

Where to stay in Saint Paul

Places to stay in St. Paul sit concentrated in the downtown area. The Lowertown Historic District, which includes some of the city's oldest buildings, makes a particularly attractive option. Hotels, guesthouses, and bed and breakfasts here can put you just steps from the Mississippi River, while the greater downtown area also offers apartment rentals and hostels. Staying downtown also puts you within walking distance of most of the city's prime attractions. Additionally, you'll find a handful of national-chain hotels on the east side of town near Interstate 494 / 694.
