Straub Brewery in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, brews Straub Beer (now known as Straub American Lager), Straub Light Beer (now known as Straub American Light), and Peter Straub's Special Dark (now known as Straub American Amber).HistoryThe Straub Brewery was founded in 1872 by Peter Straub of Felldorf, W├╝rttemberg, who purchased the Benzinger Spring Brewery from his father-in-law, Francis Xavier Sorg. The Straub Brewery in St. Marys has brewed beer continuously since 1872. The Straub Brewery is one of the oldest breweries in the United States and one of the few still owned by the original founding family. It is also the smallest pre-Prohibition brewery still in business in the United States. The Straub Brewery has been highlighted in several books written by John Schlimm, the great-great-grandson of Brewery Founder Peter Straub, including The Ultimate Beer Lover's Cookbook, The Beer Lover's Cookbook, The Straub Beer Cookbook, The Straub Beer Party Drinks Handbook, and Straub Brewery . This brewery is reportedly the last remaining users of returnable, "long-Neck" bottles in the United States.

  • Local brewery which is about 100 or more years old. Had a nice tour of the brewery. It is small and has quaint details from way back when the Brewery was first opened. Interesting & informative. Tour ...  more »
  • I've been on a bunch of brewery tours around the world. All of them will tell you how beer is made, show how it's bottled, and probably give you a sample. Straub, while a commercial producer, is still...  more »

  • I paid for FedEx shipping for a friend's birthday and I could walk this damn hat fazter
  • The beer was great but I don't get the whole 'eternal tap' thing. I came here for a few glasses after making some local deliveries and after only a couple of beers we were told we had to leave. How is that 'eternal?' Still, the beer that Straub's makes is darn tasty - I'd put it up against Sam Adams, etc.
  • Very generous with their time and beer. This was a great your and charming facility. The tour was also unique from other tours, as the company has many idiosyncrasies.
  • They are always coming up here with free samples of beer for our guests to try and bottle openers. The guests LOVE it!!! They always think of others.
  • Awesome place , great people . Loved the tour and the beer tasting , very few family brewery's left and this one is one of them . Definitely check it out if you are in the area .
