  • Any lover of Bach should make an effort to attend the Bach Festival, held each summer at the Abbey. The monks are very hospitable and run the festival like a well-oiled machine. The food that is serve...  more »

  • The Benedictines are noted for their hospitality and their "prayer and work" motto. I am always moved by the monks chanting the Psalms in the Abbey church; anyone, of any faith can watch or participat...  more »
  • The Deacon and his wife from Saint Helen's dropped me off here for part of the day. They have a museum filled with beautiful taxidermed animals. I took pictures of the animals on my phone to show people. It was the highlight of the whole trip. They have a room where people can drink free coffee. There is a sanctuary open frequently where people can pray privately or attend services. There is a bell that rings 5 times per day for services. There is a library 3 or 4 stories high full of books. They are all books on religion and philosophy. I just wasn't in the mood to do any reading that day. There is a store that sells Catholic CD's and books. None of the monks seemed interested in talking to me. I got one monk to engage in conversation with me but that was it. There is a gym but they keep it locked. I got so board that I went down to the graveyard and started talking to the dead people. There are a lot of monks burried there. This monastery is also a college, so there are certain buildings off limits to guests. I know I was trespassing but I went into one of the forbidden buildings and found a satellite dish on top of the roof. They're hiding cable T.V. somewhere!!!!!! My apologies to any monks reading this but nobody would pay any attention to me.
  • A wonderful, wonderful place for escaping society and finding balance. The brothers are kind & welcoming, the grounds are well kept, and the library is quite an experience. Worth the drive out for sure.
  • Beautiful and peaceful place for an afternoon stroll or a retreat. The place to go when the world hets too noisy
  • Great visitors center and great for all ages and faiths
  • Great visit. Was here in 1964. It's changed and it hasn't changed. :)
