Wild Basin Area, Rocky Mountain National Park

Wild Basin is a scenic trail and the southeastern entrance station of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, United States. It is located north of Allenspark off State Highway 7.A dirt road leads to a ranger station, parking and horseback or hiking trails. The trail to Bluebird Lake and Ouzel Lake follows the North St. Vrain Creek (which is a tributary of the South Platte River) passing Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls along the way, leading to Ouzel Lake and Bluebird Lake. Both Ouzel Falls and Ouzel Lake are named after a North American species of bird, Cinclus mexicanus, also known as a dipper. Other trails lead to Thunder Lake, Finch Lake, and Pear Lake.

Camping offers one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the nature of Rocky Mountain National Park. The park offers more than 500 individual sites spread out over five developed campgrounds, and wilderness camping expands your options even further. Many visitors stay in the eastside gateway town of Estes Park, where you can choose from lodges, resorts, economy motels, small inns, bed and breakfasts, and cabins. The town features a lake and views of the park's sharp peaks. On the park's western side, a handful of lodges, inns, cabins, and motels are clustered around Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake. You'll also find campgrounds around Lake Granby.
