Trail Ridge Road, Rocky Mountain National Park

4.9
Enjoy sweeping views of the lush Colorado wilderness from the comfort of your own car along Trail Ridge Road. The road stretches 77 km (48 mi) east to west through the scenic Rocky Mountain National Forest, with 17.7 km (11 mi) of the road's length traveling above the tree line. Take advantage of the area’s many walking trails and viewpoints before winding your way up the paved road to an elevation of almost 3,505 m (11,500 ft), where the evergreen tree line ends and you can enjoy panoramic views of snowcapped mountains and rugged peaks. • This is one of the best things to do while staying in Denver. It is a short drive away and very inexpensive since it is a National Park. It can get a little crowded on weekends in the summer but it is...  more »
  • Taking the trip up during the summer was something I never wanted to do but once I did it was a trip I'll do again. Plan at least 3 days to have enough time to see it all...we stayed in Estes Park as ...  more »
  • An amazing experience, there is not many places where you get to drive across the tundra above 12000 feet. Make sure to stop at Forest Canyon Outlook, which offers one of the most beautiful views. I v...  more »

  • Wonderful views during the road. Elevation reaches more than 12k feet. Deers everywhere. Not a dangerous road but closed in winter time till late may.
  • BEST SCENIC DRIVE IN THE STATE! This is a must do during your trip to RMNP. Especially if you've got kids or parents with you who cannot do any hiking. This allows you to take in the scenery (and altitude) without straining too much. The drive is very windy and requires concentration from the driver, but the passengers will all enjoy the views. Please be careful and mind the weather conditions during your trip as the road is often a quick turn away from the edge of a mountain...
  • Absolutely beautiful views and I have frequently seen different types of wildlife along the road. I would recommend taking Old Fall River Road up to the alpine visitor center and Trail Ridge Road down to make a loop from the Estes Park side.
  • 2nd time... Great views... Wear something warm
  • Best park of Rocky Mountain National Park. Make sure you bundle up even on a warm summer day. It gets cold but lits an awesome view.
