4.7/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web
One of Massachusetts' little-known natural treasures, Halibut Point State Park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and sweeping ocean views. Once the site of a major granite quarry, the site is now completely filled with water. The park contains few trees and an abundance of bayberries, blueberries, and wildflowers. Although the shallow soil and constant winds support limited plant ecosystems, the park shelters varied animal life, including snails, hermit crabs, sea stars, grebes, ducks, and loons. To discover the history of the region's granite-mining past, take a self-guided tour around the former quarry. Visit the website to download or print the park's brochure and a map of its main trails. • Halibut state park is very close to Rockport. It has nice walking trails near the sea. It has beautiful views as well. We were here in Septenber and therefore there was not a lot of wildlife.
  • A very nice walk around the quarry with a self guided tour booklet - loved the rocks to climb on by the ocean - very scenic views
  • A short walk transports you to a tranquil seaside setting full of colorful tidal pools. There still remains signs of the old stone harvesting industry. If you look closely, you will find short pieces of straw in cracks where they used the power of expanding straw to split the rock into sheets. The quarry is really cool, a large pool of fresh water, just feet from the vast crashing ocean. Quite a setting with literally thousands of great photo opportunities. Pack a lunch, bring a friend or a group of kids. There is plenty to see & do for hours. Oh, wear strap on sandals, hiking boots, tennis shoes, but skip the flip flops, they will only impair your explorations.
  • Wow was I surprised. The quarry was cool. The rocks leading down to the ocean were beautiful. It was a very hot calm day so we could actually sit on the rocks and put your feet in the water. Plenty of places to sunbathe on the flat boulders.
  • Great place to spend half day with kids, dogs. The hike is easy. The ocean view is breathtaking. The quarry lake is beautiful. The sunset is awesome! It's free and have parking lot.
  • A terrific hiking, running, or swimming spot. The Halibut Point State Park is a beautiful location located on the ocean with scenic views. It is also the site of a historic granite quarry which has been filled in by rain and a natural spring. Its a great place to spend an afternoon!
  • Had a wonderful walk here with my family one labor day weekend. Learnt a lot about the Cape Ann granite industry nd left our mark with a granite rock tower near the beach.
