  • Super old school venue but the laser show was relaxing. I could have sat there and watched and listened for hours!  more »
  • If you're into this type of thing, it's a good place. It's totally showing it's age at this point but this is a good old fashioned planetarium. Great for our kids who are super-into space. They also d...  more »
  • Planetariums are hard to find these days. This was one of the reasons we came to Rochester for the weekend. We enjoyed the narration, and the experience. Building is a little dated, but felt like we w...  more »

  • Really nice place to see the stars in the winter! The show "The Sky Tonight" was kid and adult friendly. I went on a date here and it was 7$ a person for a half hour show. It started a few minutes late but compensated. The guy who taught us about what we were seeing was very informative in a fun way. I would like to see another showing here!
  • Attended a wedding here and the couple was supposed to have a presentation under the stars but their effects didn't work! We wait for almost half an hour for it but nothing happened. We were disappointed but I know it was heartbreaking for the couple. Nice reception area though. Great food, too.
  • My family are frequent visitors to the area and my wife won (in a contest) 4 free passes to the planetarium and science/history museum next door. The musuem next door was fantastic and I plan on giving it a good review. The planetarium not so much. There are 5 of us so when we went in line to purchase another ticket the kid kept trying to charge us for 5 tickets. We told him we already had 4 (and showed him) so we only needed 1 more. He kept saying "I dont understand what you are telling me". This went on back and forth for about 5 minutes. Finally I just said "look: forget you saw us. Forget all about the fact we showed you these free passes. I would just like to buy one combo ticket. Thats it." He was still confused and went to get help. When we explained to the other guy there are5 of us and already have 4 tickets, we want to buy one more he understood perfectly. But he charged us for one admission to the planetarium only for 6 bucks when we asked for the combo pass to also visit the museum so it should have been 14 dollars. They looked confused and said what do you mean combo ticket? We had to point out the sign above their heads that said COMBO TICKET FOR PLANETARIUM AND MUSEUM $14. and they were like ohhh I see. I dont understand how hard that was to understand? Finally got into the seating area, and unfortunately instead of planet and outerspace themed things like you would expect, it was a Christmas music and laser light show. My two younger kids and wife loved it, my teenage son and myself were a little bored with it. Once the show is over, there is really nothing else to see or do at the planetarium, at least not what we saw. Just a few photos of outerspace that you can just google at home. To me, the whole place was a little disappointing and I will never go back. However, I would like to point out again, the museum next door is fantastic! I highly reccommend visiting the museum.
  • I "heart" the planetarium since I was a little kid. The bad news is the planetarium is STILL like it was when you were a little kid. It is in need of a MAJOR over-hull. Never the less, it is still a classic to bring a date too for a late night under the stars. The best time to see the planetarium is on a Saturday Night were you get to climb to the top of the observatory to see the stars, and the moon. There are a variety of telescopes to see through once you get to the top, and the instructors are very informative on telling you what exactly you are looking at. I never knew how bright the moon was till I looked at it through the observatory telescope. Before you go into the main auditorium, take some time to explore the inter-active exhibits about space around the planetarium. Unfortunately, there used to be A LOT more interactive exhibits. Each time I go now, they either seem to be gone or not working. I wonder if their are budget issues, as to why they are not fixing or adding new space exhibits?? The tunnel of space is always a treat to walk into, all the holographic pictures of the planets and stars gives you a great overview of our universe. In the back of the planetarium is the virtual space station, where you can be a part of a simulated command center take-off of a spaceship. I got the pleasure to try on one of the space coats when I was there, but the size was too small for me, and it ripped a little (oops). The main event of course is the actual planetarium show!! Personally I love going to the laser shows, but there hasn't been any new ones in ages. The 90's, and the Holiday Laser all have music that are severely outdated. Out of all the 90's music, you have to keep playing us songs we don't even know or care to listen too!!! The lasers are cool, giving you a "trippy" experience if you sat in the right spot. The fog, with the lasers going brings in a different touch to the arena as well. Again, I do not know how many more dates I have to torture myself on by bringing them to the planetarium where its ALWAYS the same show for me. I might have to mix it up by going to the Dinosaur Show now. Overall: Rooftop Telescope, Tunnel of Space, Limited Inter-Active Exhibits, Virtual Command Center, Outdated Bad Music, Cool old school Lasers, The Fog Machine, and a Night Under the Stars.....yes of course I will be back (with a date for a different SHOW hopefully).
  • We go every month to a show at the Plantaium! We just love it 🌞🌚🌝🌗🌘🌑🌒🌖🌕🌏🚀🚀🌅🌆📽 I am not a member but I love the shows ! They a fun learning experience for everyone young and old ! I wish some times the show would not end there so Great ! Thanks Holly
