The Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia, founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers to provide informal science experiences to enhance education in the classroom. While the organization has grown and moved into larger and more accessible facilities, it has never strayed from its mission focus.

  • Love thing the kids here as there are always new adventures for the and lots of hands on learning. A must go if you have children even if you don't, you'll enjoy time spent here.
  • Last week I spent $45 to take my two granddaughters to the Science Museum for a few hours on a weekday afternoon. What we found was an old, tired out set of untended exhibits. After paying extra to go...  read more »
  • Very disappointing visit; poor parking, very little directional signage (but lots of distracting clutter), floors are divided in to "museums" that you have to pay extra for. Paid $62.00 for 4 visitors with extra for the butterfly pavilion. The pavilion was small, monotonous and not very educational; a few hundred butterflies with the majority the same two types. Arcade was interesting in a nostalgic way, but should this type exhibit take up 2000 sq ft of a regional, state-funded science museum?
  • Great place for kids and adults. Multiple mini museum inside.parking garage next door that is connected to the museum. Took my son here for the first time and we both enjoyed it.we left the museum and walked downtown for lunch and went to Dr pepper park and return to the museum with no charge. Buatiful roof top deck.
  • So many things to do and look at. Might learn something new while you're here too! Great location in the heart of downtown Roanoke.
  • Real nice live fish and interactive displays. Right now they have a free to play arcade! Great place gorgeous young and old. Lots of hands on for younger kids Butterfly garden is nice and they have a huge tarantula.
  • Fun small museum, staff was completely engage and helpful, and honestly were happy to be there, among hundred of young children.
