  • This museum has an excellent timeline display of the history of Virginia. The room of civil war murals is interesting. So much history here starting with the first settlement up to the present.  more »
  • This museum was delightful. They have free parking and a suggested entrance fee (I paid the full $10). The exhibits are like a snapshot of the overall US History but more detailed. I really liked all....  more »
  • We’ve lived in Richmond since 1985. This was our first visit. It is exhaustive and quite the entertainment for an afternoon or even a day, with a break for lunch. Lots of standing. We’re seniors...  more »

  • I am very glad to visit this museum in Richmond. The exhibits were put together very well and believe me, it's a lot to digest, especially The Story of Virginia. One of the temporary exhibits that was available (the last day will be the 21st) is Fresh Murals, which showcases paintings from local artists. All I can say they will start conversations on Virginia's past and how far we can move toward the future. Pictures below will be from all the artists. Enjoy.
  • Awesome place. My husband and I spent about 3 hours and still could have stayed longer if we had the time. We were amazed with the attention to detail and the number of exhibits that this museum had. The staff was friendly and helpful
  • We visited the VMFA over my kids' spring break vacation and we saw this museum next door as we left. I had never heard of it (was previously named the Virginia Historical Society, but was renamed in the beginning of 2018 -- smart move!), so went a couple days later when it was to go the next day to explore. I've lived in Richmond for 12 years and am ashamed I didn't know about this museum sooner. Our visit was absolutely wonderful. So many interesting exhibits on the history and cultures of Virginia. One of our family's favorites was the old Richmond Trolley car. What a gem of a museum to have so close by! We had to cut our first visit short because of other engagements, but we are looking forward to our next visit! Thank you
  • Huge, beautifully kept museum that has a large, exquisitely presented collection of Virginia history inside. I don't know why we haven't been here before, but we're lucky and excited to have discovered this museum. It's large and beautiful inside, with interesting and interactive ways of presenting various periods of Virginia history. There are gas pumps, trolley cars, old wagons, guns, flags, military uniforms, statues, coins and medallions, and so much more! You can also find a research library and gift shop on site, plus more. The staff are wonderful. Cost is a suggested donation. We loved the love mural exhibit (running until April 2019), and everything else!
  • Went there went I first moved here.Walker that I am I love walking by there. It is amazingly updated with exhibits displayed new pieces that enable you to appreciate not only being your culture, your interests, but most of all being a parent of Virginian college student loving being in the state for lovers. LGBTQ friendly you'll enjoy meeting new friends and exploring new science intersts. So worth bringing the entire family too. You will love visiting Virginia.
