History Museum Historic Site
Virginia House is a manor house on a hillside overlooking the James River in the Windsor Farms neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia, United States. The house was constructed from the materials of the sixteenth-century Warwick Priory in Warwickshire, England, and shipped over and reassembled, completed several months before the stock market crash of 1929. Virginia House is in the Tudor architectural style but incorporates a range of designs from other English houses and has modern facilities such as ten baths and central heating.Virginia House was built by Alexander and Virginia Weddell, salvaging many materials from the Priory and other old English manor houses and adding further elegant English and Spanish antiques, oriental carpets, silks, and silver. Today Virginia House is operated by the Virginia Historical Society as a house museum, although it largely remains as it was in the 1940s during the Weddells’ tenancy. Immediately to the west of the property is Agecroft Hall.

  • Along with Agecroft Hall, Virginia House is a portion of a Tudor estate dismantled in Great Britain and moved to Virginia in the 1920's. It's a fascinating tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide. I...  more »

  • My Wife and I got married here this past weekend. The venue is gorgeous! I had been here on tours as a kid and always loved it's beauty. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There a lot of add on fees for wedding booking that are not clearly defined in the beginning but the venue to the, made up for it. You almost feel in another world looking out over the gardens. It truly is beautiful.
  • As a DJ at an event, Kat and her staff were 5 stars. They not only made the wet ceremony and event Excellent for the Bride and Groom, but went out of their way to make sure I was all set and ready to go for the dancing events. I would highly recommend this as a venue!! Thanks again to the staff!!!
  • What a disappointment! My wife and I also set aside an afternoon to visit Virginia House Museum, and discovered chains across the entrance "By Appointment Only". Like the previous reviewer, I also found absolutely NO notice of this on their official website. Since I live in the Philadelphia area, it may not happen any time soon that I would return. PLEASE update your website!
  • Ian somerhalder lives there
  • After finally finding this location I come to find out that the tours are by appointment only. Went back to search the web site and I couldn't locate anything that indicated an appointment . Perhaps as ever I'm in Richmond again I'll try and see it
