Two former presidents are buried in Hollywood Cemetery. The remains of James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, are contained in a Gothic Revival-style tomb nicknamed The Birdcage. A monument to the tenth president, John Tyler, stands near to Monroe's in Presidents Circle. Other must-sees include the 27 m (90 ft) pyramid that stands as a memorial to the 18,000 Confederate soldiers buried here; the grave of Jefferson Davis, the only Confederate president, marked by a lifesize statue; and the iron dog that stands watch over the grave of a little girl who died in 1862. Established in 1849, the cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. From Palmer Chapel Mausoleum or Davis circle, you'll find the best views of the mighty James River. • Beautiful views of the city and river. Pretty cool to visit the resting place of some famous people in history, including presidents. Very large, need a couple of hours to take it all in.
  • A visit to Richmond should not pass without a stop at this shrine to the city it overlooks. Off the beaten path but easy to find, this gem is tucked back in a 19th century working class neighborhood. ...  more »

  • Hauntingly beautiful - definitely worth a stroll through. Also a wonderful view of the city from it's highest hills.
  • I feel slightly awkward rating a cemetery because this isn't Google Graves or whatever. But as a tourist location (which its marketed to be) it's a pretty nice one, I suppose. The overlook from the far side to the river is gorgeous and the variety of famous people buried within make it an historic trip. If you're into ghosts and legends, you'll get that here too.
  • Really cool cemetery, it has some very important historical figures from the ACW such as Jefferson Davis resting here. A lot of interesting people have been laid to rest here.
  • Many fine soldiers are buried here.
  • Best pokestop collection in Richmond and 15. Mph speed limit makes it great for hatching eggs
