  • They have a lovely small museum and shop. You can rent their rock hammer and chisel or bring your own. It wasn't too busy when we went and it is hard to walk up the fossil site in the loose shale but ...  more »
  • I have gone fossil digging before but not in Washington, and my 8 year old really wanted to try - so I looked for a place and was glad I found one! By 10 am it was already pretty hot, and most of the ...  more »
  • Splitting rocks in the hot (June) sun was not all that much fun, but the "finds" were interesting. My grand daughter (10) had fun and made new friends at the same time.  more »
  • The experience was awesome. I'm sure we got lucky by finding a decent fossile within the first 30 minutes. After about 2.5 hours of a great time splitting rock we had some cool pieces for table displays and two small ones we're going to make magnets out of. Full fossils seem extreemly hard/rare to find. Ours were smaller fossils and the ones we found were common and small but on some big rocks that will look cool. It was a lot of fun and the treasure hunt thrill is worth the visit alone. But actually finding some nice fossils doesn't hurt either.
  • Nice little museum featuring a lot of local fossils from when Curlew lake was much different. Pay a little money and go up the hill to collect your own fossils if you wish. We were able to find our limit of fossils. We didn't find any animals, only plants. Still cool to crack open a rock and find something though. Definitely bring water and sun screen
  • It was a real treat to visit this fascinating place. The fossils are nicely presented; the layout tells a nice story of the geological history of the area. The staff was very courteous. This is a great place to bring the kids. A bonus: there's a nice park across the street where you can relax and have a picnic.
  • It was fun to go dog fossils and the staff were friendly and helpful
  • This is one place that I wish I had planned to spend the whole day. There is a cute park across the street, perfect place to let the kids run, eat a packed lunch, fill up water bottles, after the long drive there. The staff at Stonerose was helpful, we only had an hour left before the site closed but they were just as kind and friendly as could be. I definitely recommend renting a set of tools, the smaller tools work the best. While it is only a two block walk from the center to the site, there is some shoulder parking up at the site for a couple cars (Be careful, the shoulder has a rut that could mess up your car.) We saw wild turkeys while we were digging, the kids had a hard time getting up the hill side but they eventually made it and had a lot of fun. Don't forget to bring your box for rocks up with you, it will be almost impossible to carry stuff down in your hands!
