Siena Hotel, Reno

#11 of 12 in Casinos in Reno
Siena Reno is a hotel and former casino in Reno, Nevada. It was previously Holiday Reno until closing down in 1998 and reopening as Siena Reno in 2001.HistoryHoliday Reno opened in 1956 as a non-gaming hotel. Within a year of its opening, poor performance resulted in the addition of gaming. At the end of October, 1998, after over 40 years in business, Holiday Reno closed. Shortly after the old Holiday closed, it was purchased by California investor Barney Ng, who planned to remodel the old building by completely gutting the structure and then rebuilding and expanding on it, at a cost of US$16-$20 million, transforming the structure and adding an all suite floor, an additional wing to the tower, a larger casino, dining venues, a large spa, and an entrance with a clock tower. The hotel opened on July 31, 2001 with 500 employees. After years of financial struggle, Siena Reno closed down on October 21, 2010.It was decided by creditors to auction the hotel off and that was done on November 10, 2010. A group of investors from various locations around the country including Reno with hospitality experience called "Grand Siena, LLC" purchased the property for $3.9 million.Grand Siena, LLC invested $5 million into refurbishing Siena Reno, including remodeled rooms, a redesigned casino, new restaurants and entertainment venues and a revamped spa. They claimed the hotel was positioned to rank as a 4 or 5 diamond resort. The newly revamped Siena Reno opened on April 18, 2011.The new owners of the boutique resort say they have replaced much of the old Italian theme with an aggressive-contemporary theme using lots of marble, LED lighting, and imported artwork. They say the new facility will cater to a more mature audience with less emphasis on loud nightlife.

  • My wife saw the name of this place and it mentioned spa. She thought it might be inexpensive because of the reviews but we couldn’t really see anything to do with a spa? The place looked deserted. May...  more »
  • We walked all the way over there to check out this casino, and it's gone. They apparently did a recent renovation on the property and took out the casino. Now there's just bocce ball where the casino ...  more »
  • Every time I step into this casino, I find it almost empty. This poor place can't seem to get off the ground. The space is nothing special, just about the same casino design you find elsewhere. Maybe ...  more »

  • Nice hotel, once the the construction is finished it will be top rated! We had to fix our own coffee maker, they tried with no success, but they were very professional. We had to request a second bath robe. We would stay there again for sure. The room decor was very nice, love the seating area! We had a great view of the Truckee River. The window even opens a little bit so that you can hear the roar of the river.
  • Now called Renaissance, enjoy a couple of drinks overlooking the river. Staff were friendly and even put on a bit if a show in the bar area. The remodel looks great and I'll have to check out the restaurant next time.
  • I recently attended a beer festival at Bundox Bocce. The facility is really neat! In addition to bocce, there are a couple shuffleboard tables. The whole area is really open and modern. I would like to come back sometime and learn to play!
  • They should have let me no upon booking that I was paying top prices for a hotel under renovations,I'm sure it will be beautiful when done. But paying over $100 a night being woke up by hammers at 815am every morning isn't cool, not sure what else to say. The drivers and bartenders were really nice knowledgeable and professional. Management well I reckon some of us must suffer to pay for said renovations. Disgruntled patron
  • First of all, this is no longer the Siena. It is now the Mariott Renaissance. In short, I wasn't impressed - especially consisering the price. No continental breakfast and $10/day WiFi - seriously?! The lobby music is loud and repetitive. The rooms are alright, although my windows didn't fully close. The gym is pretty good, and the staff is generally friendly. But if I come back to Reno, I'll be staying somewhere else.

Where to stay in Reno

Since Reno's casinos want you to save your money for the blackjack table, they offer some very reasonable rates on their rooms. Even a stay in one of the amenity-rich resort- or spa-style casinos downtown can be quite affordable. Plenty of hotels, motels, inns, and lodges are scattered throughout town, though most lie in and around downtown. If you're planning to ski in the mountains west of town, staying near Interstate 80 can save a couple minutes on your commute. Accommodations in Reno generally remain easy to find, but the days before and after the popular Burning Man festival in the desert east of the city tend to see a bump in visitors. Consider booking ahead if your visit coincides with the festival.
