Grand Sierra Resort is a hotel and casino located approximately three miles east of Downtown Reno, Nevada. The hotel has 1,990 guest rooms and suites, 10 restaurants, including two by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer and a casino with 63584sqft of space. The hotel also has a shopping center, wedding chapel, pool, convention center, 50-lane bowling alley, movie theater, a Race & Sports Book, nightclubs including LEX a 25,000 sq ft venue with a swimming pool, lake golf driving range, a two screen cinema and an RV park. It is owned and operated by Southern California based investment group headed by The Meruelo Group.HistoryIn 1975, officials from the Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Company began to scout out Reno locations for their proposed high rise hotel-casino they wanted to model after their very high profile Las Vegas casino, the MGM Grand. Following a deal with and approval from the City Council, MGM purchased land at the intersection of Mill and 2nd Streets, at that time a gravel pit. The Summer of 1976 saw construction begin on the 26 story, 1,015 room property that would then be one of the largest in the world. After two years of fast tracked construction, the building opened with fanfare, fashion and media attention on May 3, 1978.

  • We're told marketing changes are happening and it is not for the better. Less comp deals, etc... Sat at the tables for 8 hours and for some reason it showed 1/4 of the time... watch your cards
  • RVing. Asked for something near the casino for a patient of recent knee surgery. Ended up 1/2 mile away in a "back-in" slot usually used by employees. The only time in 6 months and 8 trips Imwas conce...  read more »

  • The Grand Sierra is definitely one of the better casino/hotels to stay at when in Reno. Although it seems that the machines are tight, the tables are pretty popular. Great customer service although the they have a new anti dog policy which is unpopular. Free stays are easily earned but make sure to spend the extra $20 for the Sierra Summit Suite upgrade is so worth it. There is a bowling ally, nightclub, arcade, driving range movie theater and more to keep you busy during your stay. Watch out cause weekends and any half decent holiday/event, this place gets booked full and it becomes an annoyance trying to avoid the crowds and everything is a ling line.,
  • Came here for bowling and had a great time. The staff was friendly and got us set up quickly. The bowling alley located on the second floor was a shock. It's huge. The music can be a little loud if you just want to concentrate on bowling but there are a lot of teens here so it's fine. We luckily came on 5 dollar game day. The facility was well maintained.
  • Stayed a few times before. This time in a double Queen room. It is about an hour from lake Tahoe and close to Reno and sparks. Perfect spot for a base camp for the area. Check in had a long line but moved quickly. Customer service has been great so far from online reservation to the stay. Room is clean and adequate towels and toiletries like shampoo and body wash and Kleenex provided. Water and a fridge were provided. Would stay again.
  • They are very good to their loyal customers, one of the main reasons we always go back. nice rooms love the cheap move theater down stairs but I do wish they had more inexpensive things for small children
  • I forgot all about this gem of a hotel. Recently received a great deal by belonging to their rewards card program. Our upgraded room was amazing. Marbled shower, refrigerator and huge room. The hotel is very large and includes a pool, golfing and a huge bowling alley. High end restaurants with affordable cafe and buffet. We are planning on staying again this month. Rooms were quiet and we were able to get a goodnight sleep.
