Grand Sierra Resort is a hotel and casino located approximately three miles east of Downtown Reno, Nevada. The hotel has 1,990 guest rooms and suites, 10 restaurants, including two by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer and a casino with 63584sqft of space. The hotel also has a shopping center, wedding chapel, pool, convention center, 50-lane bowling alley, movie theater, a Race & Sports Book, nightclubs including LEX a 25,000 sq ft venue with a swimming pool, lake golf driving range, a two screen cinema and an RV park. It is owned and operated by Southern California based investment group headed by The Meruelo Group.HistoryIn 1975, officials from the Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Company began to scout out Reno locations for their proposed high rise hotel-casino they wanted to model after their very high profile Las Vegas casino, the MGM Grand. Following a deal with and approval from the City Council, MGM purchased land at the intersection of Mill and 2nd Streets, at that time a gravel pit. The Summer of 1976 saw construction begin on the 26 story, 1,015 room property that would then be one of the largest in the world. After two years of fast tracked construction, the building opened with fanfare, fashion and media attention on May 3, 1978.

  • I have been coming to this resort for 30 years. It started as MGM, then the Hilton, and now the Grand Sierra. it seems to have gone downhill in many areas. However, it is probably the better of most o...  more »

  • The Grand Sierra has been renovated in the last few years and looks really nice now. Also the ventilation inside is really good and the smoke smell is hardly noticeable unless you are right next to a smoker on the casino floor. A lot of really nice people work there who are very helpful. They did replace some of the grass with fake grass that my dog does not like as much, however. The location is pretty close to the airport and there is a lot of parking available except during events like Hot August Nights. The room where the gun show convention is held is impressively large. I like that GSR has a bowling alley and a golf thing over the artificial lake.
  • Well the pricing is absolutely great I was able to get two complimentary nights from gambling points. The rewards system is great and the food is extrordinary. Room service is great and the staff are very energetic. I requested a smoking room which was not available so I got a normal room, but the room became available my first day and they moved me to the knew room hassle free.
  • The Grand Sierra is definitely one of the better casino/hotels to stay at when in Reno. Although it seems that the machines are tight, the tables are pretty popular. Great customer service although the they have a new anti dog policy which is unpopular. Free stays are easily earned but make sure to spend the extra $20 for the Sierra Summit Suite upgrade is so worth it. There is a bowling ally, nightclub, arcade, driving range movie theater and more to keep you busy during your stay. Watch out cause weekends and any half decent holiday/event, this place gets booked full and it becomes an annoyance trying to avoid the crowds and everything is a ling line.,
  • Grand Sierra it has its good and it has its bad . Good is nice decoration live entertainment and excellent food. The bad, I road my bike to GSR I lock it up at bike rack where I thought it would be secured. went to have dinner then rented a room then I went to check on bike it was gone. I went to security made out a report and to check to see if they had cameras, which they do not I recommend that security install a camera were bikes are locked they know they have a problem about Stolen Bikes so please if you can install a $10 security camera and more lights were the bike rack is. That would be greatly appreciated thank you. Mr.V Martinez
  • The hotel was very clean and there was hardly any smoke smell. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and they had some new slot machines. The movie theater was very cheap too, at only 4 dollars per film. I would definitely recommend staying here.
