Sundial Bridge, Redding

4.5
#1 of 19 in Things to do in Redding
Stretching 213 m (700 ft) across the Sacramento River, Sundial Bridge gives visitors easy access to a nearby park and also claims to be one of the world's largest timepieces of its kind. The bridge's 66 m (217 ft) tall tower acts as the "hand" of the sundial, holding the structure entirely above the water, and you'll find that markers on a nearby plaza provide the clock on which the shadow falls. Marvel at the bridge's design, which incorporates decorative glass, tiles, and translucent structure pieces that make the profile extremely distinctive. • The Sundial Bridge is a beautiful bridge for pedestrians to walk across whole strolling down through the river trail. It's deffinately a tourist attraction. I would also like to say that, this is a structure, outside in the open, so in the warmer months there are spiders galore, and there maybe a slight chance that you might get a spider that falls on you when you are down below the bridge....not much you can do about it. You're out in nature and that's just how it goes in nature. So either deal with it or don't go to the bridge. Certainly, don't complain about all the nature being in nature though.
  • The Sundial Bridge is beautifully Built... With Glass floors, Lights and railings that are made for viewing the lush River below... A great place to bring the whole Family.. Many trails to venture, Play Ground for kids and large statues of creatures and Bugs to find... There are many activities and musical events held here for free... Its more then worth a visit... There are Bathrooms and water fountains... Bring the kids the Pets or Come alone, Or with that special someone... Great for Dates or Birthdays. ... You must experience this adventure!!
  • This was amazing, the structure of the bridge is beautiful and it is a fun walk across. If my husband and I had more time we would have loved to check out all the trails there are many nice ones. I would love to come back to visit again.
  • A remarkable bridge attracting locals and people from out of the area. There is a good three mile trail on the other side of the bridge. Good for walking/ running and for kids to takes their scooters or bikes.
  • A suspension bridge over the Sacramento river at Redding, adjacent to the Turtle Bay Exploration Park. The bridge looks very impressive and aesthetically pleasing with its unique design of a Sun dial and the phosphorescent glass surface which glows at night. 300 acre campus of the Park contains the McConnell Arboretum and Botanical gardens and has direct links to the famous Sacramento River Trail. The beautiful, snow capped Mt. Shasta is visible from this area.
