Sundial Bridge, Redding

4.6
#1 of 19 in Things to do in Redding
Stretching 213 m (700 ft) across the Sacramento River, Sundial Bridge gives visitors easy access to a nearby park and also claims to be one of the world's largest timepieces of its kind. The bridge's 66 m (217 ft) tall tower acts as the "hand" of the sundial, holding the structure entirely above the water, and you'll find that markers on a nearby plaza provide the clock on which the shadow falls. Marvel at the bridge's design, which incorporates decorative glass, tiles, and translucent structure pieces that make the profile extremely distinctive. The Sundial Bridge is the new landmark in Redding, opened in 2005 as part of the Turtle Bay area. You can walk across the Sacramento River, and the pathway is lit from below at night.  more »

We walked over the bridge and into the park. Was a nice little walk. There were some flowers blooming (it was late September) and there was wildlife like deer and turkeys.  more »

If you like pretentious joggers and the occasional hipster guitarist wondering about then this is the place for you. Screaming children disobeying their parents and bicyclists running you over really pieces together the ambiance. Enjoy this 24 million dollar bridge that wasn't even built by local companies. Did you know companies in Washington got the bid? Anyway I digress...this wild eyesore is great for wondering why things like this were necessary in the first place and enjoying a river walk.

This dramatic bridge spans the Sacramento River. The glass, underfoot, is a bit slippery when wet. Parking for this tourist attraction was quite easy. There are beautiful gardens on the far side of the bridge, and the vegetation is well-marked. I highly recommend a trip to the Sundial Bridge.

The bridge is fantastic bring a real camera you won't be disappointed. Lots of fun things for the kids to do. Even if you arrive late there are several trails to walk. Best time for fotos is 90 min before sundown.

This bridge is just an architectural beauty. The walkway is interesting, with its glass panels, and when on the other side, the sundial spike shoots up into the sky. Following the suspension lines can make one extremely dizzy. The park offers lots of paths for relaxing and strolling, as well as a gift shop and coffee/snack shop, with some tasty pastries.

It's beautiful. Be it day time or evening u r gonna love the view. Night time when lights are switched on below the bridge, it's just mesmerizing.
