Sundial Bridge, Redding

#1 of 20 in Things to do in Redding
Bridge Tourist Spot
Stretching 213 m (700 ft) across the Sacramento River, Sundial Bridge gives visitors easy access to a nearby park and also claims to be one of the world's largest timepieces of its kind. The bridge's 66 m (217 ft) tall tower acts as the "hand" of the sundial, holding the structure entirely above the water, and you'll find that markers on a nearby plaza provide the clock on which the shadow falls. Marvel at the bridge's design, which incorporates decorative glass, tiles, and translucent structure pieces that make the profile extremely distinctive. • My husband and I were in Valencia, Spain last October and on a tour, learned about their native son, architect Antonio Calatrava, known for his extraordinary bridge designs around the world. Redding's...  more »
  • A wonderful combination of modern architecture and nature. We very much enjoyed our evening walk at Sacramento River.  more »
  • This bridge looked a lot nicer on the website. I'm glad we stopped to see it, but also glad we did not make a special trip as it was just so so.  more »

  • If you like pretentious joggers and the occasional hipster guitarist wondering about then this is the place for you. Screaming children disobeying their parents and bicyclists running you over really pieces together the ambiance. Enjoy this 24 million dollar bridge that wasn't even built by local companies. Did you know companies in Washington got the bid? Anyway I digress...this wild eyesore is great for wondering why things like this were necessary in the first place and enjoying a river walk.
  • This dramatic bridge spans the Sacramento River. The glass, underfoot, is a bit slippery when wet. Parking for this tourist attraction was quite easy. There are beautiful gardens on the far side of the bridge, and the vegetation is well-marked. I highly recommend a trip to the Sundial Bridge.
  • The bridge is fantastic bring a real camera you won't be disappointed. Lots of fun things for the kids to do. Even if you arrive late there are several trails to walk. Best time for fotos is 90 min before sundown.
  • This bridge is just an architectural beauty. The walkway is interesting, with its glass panels, and when on the other side, the sundial spike shoots up into the sky. Following the suspension lines can make one extremely dizzy. The park offers lots of paths for relaxing and strolling, as well as a gift shop and coffee/snack shop, with some tasty pastries.
  • It's beautiful. Be it day time or evening u r gonna love the view. Night time when lights are switched on below the bridge, it's just mesmerizing.
