Sundial Bridge, Redding

(4.5/5 based on 1,000 reviews on the web)
Stretching 213 m (700 ft) across the Sacramento River, Sundial Bridge gives visitors easy access to a nearby park and also claims to be one of the world's largest timepieces of its kind. The bridge's 66 m (217 ft) tall tower acts as the "hand" of the sundial, holding the structure entirely above the water, and you'll find that markers on a nearby plaza provide the clock on which the shadow falls. Marvel at the bridge's design, which incorporates decorative glass, tiles, and translucent structure pieces that make the profile extremely distinctive. • Very impressive. Make sure you go over and see the shadows on the dials for time of day. Impressive lite up at night. Take time to visit the garden area.
