Where to stay in Rapid City

In Rapid City you'll find a variety of hotels and motels, but you can expect their rates to vary considerably depending on the season. Those located downtown provide easy walking access to some of the area's most popular restaurants and bars. Visitors wanting to explore the iconic Mount Rushmore or Custer State Park attractions may prefer the convenience of a hotel along Interstate 90. If you want a scenic escape, look for a bed and breakfast, campsite, or cabin in the surrounding Black Hills National Forest.

  • We found the Crystal Caves quite nice, very informative and a great photo opportunity. Tip - take a jacket with you, it's cold underground. $13 per person.  more »
  • Fun crystal cave. Really nice tour. Lots of stairs, and really cold, which is nice on a hot summer day. The guides do a really great job of explaining everything. The tour is not too long which is nic...  more »

  • Permantly closed! Super uncool!!! I was planning to come here on vacation this September! Damn it I was here when I was a kid it was absolutely jaw-dropping I really wanted to experience it as an adult! Hopefully they reopen
  • The place was amazing. In fact, that entire region is FULL of awesome things to do, at incredible places. A Mammoth dig is near there, Rushmore, Sitting Bull's mountain, that was incredible! Rushmore is humongous, but Sitting Bull is WAY bigger. Great area for recreation. Those caverns were gorgeous, will upload a couple more photos from our visit.
  • We wanted to look but it's closed for this season. Ugh
  • We went to the cave with 6 people, 2 seniors, 2 adults, 2 kids under 10. It entertained all of us. The climb of stairs scared me the most, the other members of my group were fine. Our tour guide, Daniel was charming and informative. We tipped Daniel a few extra dollars and we all left smiling!
  • Was beautiful it's sad that it's closed down
