Dinosaur Park, Rapid City

(750+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
Showcasing seven lifesize dinosaurs overlooking the city, Dinosaur Park has been catching eyes since 1936. Initially gray, these iron and concrete giants were colored bright green and white in the 1950s. Most of them are meant to reflect fossils found in the area. See the models of Apatosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Anatotitan, Protoceratops, and a nondinosaur Dimetrodon--an ancestor of dinosaurs. These all look somewhat goofy by today's standards, and are sometimes described as being from the Flintstones' world. Take in the 160 km (100 mi) view of the surrounding area from this overlook above the town. • This is a wonderful family activity for all ages. Hike up the hill to life size dinosaurs and enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view of the city.  more »
  • Neat location, the kids ran around and climbed on dinosaurs for about 20 minutes, a nice free activity.  more »
  • The drive to this location was probably the best. Great overlook for the whole city. The Dinosaurs were not much to look at but it was free so well worth it then.  more »

  • We were on a family road trip cross country and decided to stop here after Mount Rushmore to stretch our legs and let our toddler run around for a bit. She's at the age where she loves dinosaurs and she certainly enjoyed seeing and climbing on these huge statues! Also a good view of the city. There are a lot of stairs as people have mentioned and the dinosaurs are old school with chipped paint on some. The car ride to the top took a lot longer and was more winding than expected. However, we had fun and think it was worth it!
  • Awesome experience but be prepared to walk up a lot of steps to get to the top. It's dinosaurs plain and simple. There is no swings, ect but the kids love the dinosaurs! The gift shop is amazing with clean bathrooms, appropriately prices souvenirs and great I expensive food and ice cream!
  • Awesome place for kids, lots of stairs. Neat lil gift shop with a snack bar that is reasonably priced. We fed 2 adults and 2 kids for less then $11.
  • A favorite since childhood in the 1960's. Beautiful panoramic views, the dinosaurs are magnificent and fun for children to climb on (and adults). A FREE way to spend a couple hours. The stairs can be a little tricky for someone with walking difficulties. The gift shop has a nice selection of fun and educational items. You can get a bite to eat there, too.
  • Gift shop had best prices we've seen. Didn't eat, but cheap meals. Dinos are super cool and amazing views of the city. Great roadside detour with the kids and several pokestops!
