Dinosaur Park, Rapid City

3.6
Showcasing seven lifesize dinosaurs overlooking the city, Dinosaur Park has been catching eyes since 1936. Initially gray, these iron and concrete giants were colored bright green and white in the 1950s. Most of them are meant to reflect fossils found in the area. See the models of Apatosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Anatotitan, Protoceratops, and a nondinosaur Dimetrodon--an ancestor of dinosaurs. These all look somewhat goofy by today's standards, and are sometimes described as being from the Flintstones' world. Take in the 160 km (100 mi) view of the surrounding area from this overlook above the town. Arrange to visit Dinosaur Park and other attractions in Rapid City using our Rapid City trip site .

  • Kind of a hokey spot but I like it. It is some genuine old time Rapid City. They have cleaned up and improved the area in recent years. Kids love it. L  more »
  • Everybody in the Black Hills grew up visiting this place, and it luckily hasn't changed. The dinos are fantastic, I love the hand-laid rock stairs, and the view from the top can't be beat!!  more »

  • I go to dinosaur park whenever I need to cool off or relive some stress. They have a nice gift shop if you are passing through and want a souvenir. A bit costy, but what gift shop isn't. As an added bonus, time it right and you can catch one of the most beautiful sunsets you'll see in 50 miles.
  • Great views of Rapid City. Great place for a picnic. I have more fun there than my kids do. Honestly, it looks like one big liability/lawsuit for the city. But who am I to judge ?? 💲💲🏥🏥🚑🚑
  • Went in February when it was super snowy and zero degrees out. Was a beautiful place to watch the sunset with some dinosaur friends. Liked it so much, I woke up early the next morning to watch the sunrise. A very relaxing place with some fun sculptures.
  • If you like kitschy road side America then this is a worth while place. You get to mill around a nice park and take pictures of your kids climbing on the concrete dinosaurs. If you are into more of a "Polished" experience then you should probably skip this.
  • Friday, March 23. The park is FREE! There was a sign that said it was closed. However, since all the dinasaurs were outside, we were ok, and took some pictures. It was freezing up there. We just took pictures. We were here for just 20 minutes.
