Cosmos Mystery Area, Rapid City
(3.8/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Explore the mysteries of Cosmos Mystery Area, where water flows uphill and you can sit on a wall. The area was discovered by chance in 1952, and has drawn curious visitors ever since. On the tour, you can participate in the demonstrations of seemingly reversed gravity. The illusions created by the natural phenomenon known as gravity hill are most dramatic inside the on-site cabin. Note that the tour requires navigating forest paths that are not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Bring comfortable shoes for the walk. • Fun place to take the family a little disorienting not for the weak stomached. Feels like gravity is coming at you sideways forcing you to stand at an angle. Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Also did the geode mining. Kids cracked open a geode to take home with them (costs extra) family of 6 for the tour and the geode mine was 70 dollars.
  • My 8 year old loved it. So one cool exotic had was of you have an iPhone and go to the compass and swipe left there is a level. If you hold it vertical my phone had some extra lines and red areas appear that my wife witnessed. I have not been able to recreate this malfunction since I was there. Anybody ever seen this happen? Wish I had taken a screen shot. That screen only ever has black and white then goes green when your level. Mine had red triangles all over and wouldn't turn green.
  • Fun place. 1 year old enjoyed it so did the 13 year old. Expensive! Short tour. Otherwise great time.
  • There's 5 different parts. Kind of short for what you pay. But it's interesting and crazy. We all had a good time! Ages 55 to 2. Must have good balance!
  • Fun place for adults and kids. Crazy wonky things unexplained. Friendly staff, 10% off ice cream with receipt after tour. Friend and motivated staff. Our tour guide talked really fast though and was difficult to understand. Ottherwise it was very fun.
