Cosmos Mystery Area, Rapid City
Categories: Entertainment Centers, Mysterious Sites, Fun & Games, Tourist Spots
Explore the mysteries of Cosmos Mystery Area, where water flows uphill and you can sit on a wall. The area was discovered by chance in 1952, and has drawn curious visitors ever since. On the tour, you can participate in the demonstrations of seemingly reversed gravity. The illusions created by the natural phenomenon known as gravity hill are most dramatic inside the on-site cabin. Note that the tour requires navigating forest paths that are not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Bring comfortable shoes for the walk. Our tour guide mentioned several times how much she "hates this part of the tour" and we felt rushed through. It's a fun place to experience but they could improve on customer service.
Had a great time. The guide was well prepared and made it very interesting. The kids esp loved it because he let them try everything. Even if you aren't a believer,it is still a fun time
Fun and interesting for the whole family. Even skeptics will wonder what is happening here. Kids love it! The tour starts fast and is engaging from beginning. It's pricey. If you are prone to feeling ... read more »
Fun place to take the family a little disorienting not for the weak stomached. Feels like gravity is coming at you sideways forcing you to stand at an angle. Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Also did the geode mining. Kids cracked open a geode to take home with them (costs extra) family of 6 for the tour and the geode mine was 70 dollars.
Fun place for adults and kids. Crazy wonky things unexplained. Friendly staff, 10% off ice cream with receipt after tour. Friend and motivated staff. Our tour guide talked really fast though and was difficult to understand. Ottherwise it was very fun.
My 8 year old loved it. So one cool exotic had was of you have an iPhone and go to the compass and swipe left there is a level. If you hold it vertical my phone had some extra lines and red areas appear that my wife witnessed. I have not been able to recreate this malfunction since I was there. Anybody ever seen this happen? Wish I had taken a screen shot. That screen only ever has black and white then goes green when your level. Mine had red triangles all over and wouldn't turn green.
There's 5 different parts. Kind of short for what you pay. But it's interesting and crazy. We all had a good time! Ages 55 to 2. Must have good balance!
This was a really fun place and worth visiting while in the Black Hills! We brought our children (ages 5, 9 and 16) and everyone had a great time. The kids talked about the experience for days afterwards! The staff is very friendly and honest. We unfortunately left our camera in the gift shop and didn't realize it was missing until we had left South Dakota. I called Cosmos and the staff had found the camera. They went out of their way to take it to the post office the next day, send it back to us through priority mail and even called to follow up that the camera had been sent. Thank you very much, I am very happy to have my camera back and all the pictures from our vacation!
