Chapel In the Hills, Rapid City

(4.6/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Instead of traveling to Scandinavia to admire the wonders of wooden architecture, visit Chapel In the Hills and take a trip back in time. The Lutheran church is an exact replica of the medieval Borgund stave church in Norway, and its architecture and surrounding nature perfectly conjure a tranquil Norwegian atmosphere. Next to the church is a small museum housed in an authentic 19th-century log cabin erected by a Norwegian prospector who settled here. Admire the artifacts and use the opportunity to learn how traditional Scandinavian runestones are carved. Admission is free. • If you visit the Black Hills, this is a must see. This is an authentic building. The only other place in the world you'll probably be able to see another building like this is in Scandinavia. The Black Hills of SD were settled by many Scandinavians and they graced this area with this incredible structure.
  • This place does not belong such a high rating... The justifiable rating should be around 2.5.. I am just helping people by adjusting the rating...
  • Historic Norwegian architecture, soulful ambiance, lovely setting.
  • Omg this place is awesome very peaceful :)
  • Intricately carved woodwork. Authentic Norwegian wooden buildings, small historical display. Beautiful church, nice grounds, and GORGEOUS place for a wedding. Worth the work to find it!
