  • The guided tour was very comprehensive. Our guide (Jacob) was extremely knowledgeable. Altogether a wonderful tour. The buildings are well preserved and reflect the stories of their times.  more »
  • The park is a wonderful treat for any history buff. It's near downtown, so easy to find. But for me, it's about St. Mark's Chapel. A small 150+ year old church moved to the site. My wife and I got mar...  more »
  • We rented this quaint chapel for a service, and it was beautiful. The traditional wooden fixtures and small size made it the perfect place for our service. The beautiful little park made a nice backdr...  more »

  • This is a wonderful historical location in downtown Raleigh, but away from the hubbub of central downtown. There are trees! A bit more residential feeling. Property well maintained. We started there on a bus tour of the Dorothy Dix property so did not go into house. Other times have been there for Civil War reenactments, and the local Bluebird Society meets there. Well used, well maintained, loaded with history, and great to look at!
  • We love this spot so much we got married here! Take a tour of the house and grounds, stroll the garden! Let your kids catch Pokemon!
  • Very nice. We, unfortunately, did not get to tour the buildings, but they seem well maintained from the outside. We'll be back during operating hours to tour the buildings.
  • The experience was disappointing. The staff was not very helpful. We purchased tickets but were not told specifically where to go for the start of the tour. The tour started and we had to find the tour group which was led by a high school student. The lady that appeared to be the manager was not helpful either. Visiting from the DC area hoping to learn a bit about Southern history in NC, we felt like the remnants of the past were still in the air.
  • Interesting place if you're in to local history. I didn't like how several of the buildings were brought here from other locations though, kind of misleading

Where to stay in Raleigh

Staying downtown provides the most convenient access to Raleigh's leading attractions. You'll find a couple of large, efficient hotels here--they feature a large volume of beds. The area around the North Campus of North Carolina State University lies just west of downtown and features a handful of additional hotels. A cluster of national chain hotels and motels lies in the midtown area north of downtown. There are a couple of bus lines that provide easy access to downtown from here, so this area serves as a suitable option if you cannot find accommodation in the city center. The intersection of I-440 and Route 70 to the northwest of downtown features numerous hotels and motels, but these largely cater to business travelers who require convenient access to both downtown and the airport.
